11 week old doesn’t keep still of a night - any ideas?

Hi,

My 11 week old was previously sleeping well, at one point she did 8 hours uninterrupted. She was in a sleepy head and I’ve just taken her out in the past 2 days because I know it’s not the safest, so she’s now in a next to me with a sleeping bag on.

She settles well for the first 3 hours, then I hear her going wild in her cot pretty much all night. She’s thrashing, kicking the end of her cot. i look at her and she looks tired, I give her a dummy and she settles very briefly, then begins drawing knees to chest etc.

I feed her but that doesn’t seem to help, what she is wearing is as per guidelines, she is burped before she goes down. Nappy isn’t dirty etc. don’t know what is going on. I’m so tired now I can’t seem to think of any ideas. I thought maybe it was because of the change in sleeping environment but that doesn’t explain why she settles okay of a day and well for the first 3 hours. I also thought wind etc but she’s had a number of poos today and isn’t doing the usual grunting.

any one got any ideas on what’s going on ? I’m not sure how to try and help

Sounds quite normal to me. Babies are noisy and thrashy sleepers at times. They grow out of it

I'd say this is pretty normal at this age, it does start to settle down.

My second is the same age now. I swaddle but use a thin blanket tucked in tightly over the top which does reduce the movement a bit.

Does she wake herself up doing it or is it just the noise keeping you awake? I'm also using loop ear plugs this time around to make myself a bit less noise sensitive.

I also have her in the next to me but if she starts doing very short stints of sleep from 3ish onwards, I bring her into bed with me and she's usually stiller.

She has never done 8 hours in a row yet though! Although my first did 9 hours in a row at 3 months and then didn't come close to that again for 2 years 🙃

Kids do move a lot in their sleep. I'm not sure when they grow out of it....still waiting for DD to settle down and she is 4.5! She spends the whole night thrashing and moving around.

Normal. Newborns are soooo noisy. Unpopular decision: we moved ours into their own room because no one was getting any sleep. That said I’ve just brought our 13mo into our bed (on holiday, he stirred and I didn’t want him to wake his brother) and by god he’s still a noisy little mite. I’ve given up for the night now.

Buckle up and ride it out! Mine was incredibly quiet until 3 months when he turned into a dinosaur! They calm down eventually! Though he’s now 2 and co-sleeping. Currently kicking me in the head 🤨

Thanks all for the responses.

I remember my first being noisy and we put her in her own room at 4 months because of it but this just seems different, she wakes her self up with it and can get upset, it’s not like she is sleeping through it and noisy. It’s just difficult because it’s affecting her sleep really badly

@peanutbuttertoasty that’s interesting because ours was really quite still and quiet to but also now like a little dinosaur, perhaps I’m misremembering just how loud they can be. Ear plugs for me I think

Mine later went through a phase of thrashing his legs about and slamming them down in his cot. Also quite normal I think but incredibly noisy and borderline distressing. Just a phase though. Got better when we moved him to bigger cot

Good luck!!
