With a 13year old , 6 and 4.
Not blackgang went before kids were bored.

Ideally not too expensive. We have maybe 7 hours there.
If all else fails it'll be a beach type thing

Which ferry are you taking and will you have a car?

Allthehorsesintheworld · 20/07/2024 17:41

Donkey Sanctuary is donation. Monkey Haven ?
Treasure hunt on the beach. I buried a few coins , painted stones, can’t remember what else, buried them in the sand and dgs spent half an hour digging for them. Maybe your 13 year old could do the burying. Count them first to make sure they find them all.

longdistanceclaraclara · 20/07/2024 17:44

Osborne house

PoliteOtter · 20/07/2024 17:45

I really liked Carisbrooke Castle and Osborne House.

Dearover · 20/07/2024 17:49

Knock it down to 5 hours. The boat will be cancelled on the way over.

Go to Shanklin and play the crazy golf courses. Give everyone £1 to use on the 2p shove machines in the arcade. Buy the biggest Whippy ice creams and get brain freeze.

Or Osborne.

Need to know which ferry. If wightlink and a yarmouth landing then I would say a freshwater focus. Great beaches- and the Fort and if low tide looking for Dinosaur footprint fossils.

If Fishbourne then I would head for Ryde for a decent beach experience, but watch for the Ryde sands which can be very quicksand-y. Or Seaview which is lovely.

If east Cowes then Osborne House and Carisbrooke Castle.

GoingRoundInTriangularCircles · 20/07/2024 18:45

Sorry Red funnel to cowes

oddsoxxes · 20/07/2024 20:55

The monkey place was brilliant. We loved hearing the life stories of all the monkeys that has been rescued from various places.

Me neither. I'd be letting them find their own entertainment after that experience 🤣

CrotchetyQuaver · 20/07/2024 20:59

Have a look at Robin Hill

OldTinHat · 20/07/2024 21:14

Urgh, good luck with Red Funnel. You know they've not been running recently? And the floating bridge is a law unto itself.

But, coming into Cowes, maybe Tapnell Farm? You've got the usual suspects like Osborne House and Carisbrooke Castle. Alum Bay for the coloured sand and funfair type things plus the chairlift and boat trips out to the Needles.

Amazon World is great. So is the zoo in Sandown - or you could just bumble to Sandown and enjoy the pier, Dinosaur Isle, crazy golf.

That's all I've got immediately off the top of my head. But, seriously, check the ferry. RF is not reliable atm, lots of people got stranded last weekend.

Robin Hill closed last year. It has been up for sale, so don't go there! It's well and truly shut.

Cowes is lovely for a wander, some great independent shops and child friendly pubs with spectacular views along the front. You're also not far from Ryde which is fab for kids. The beach is beautiful, very sandy and loads of places to eat. Very British seaside but lovely, if you know what I mean!? There's a fab bar on the seafront called Harbour which does great tapas type food. There's amusements and the usual outside trampolines, crazy golf and those bouncy spring things that kids get hooked up to. Also a lake with paddle boats in Ryde just next to the beach which is very cute for kids too. Cowes and Ryde for one day would be more than enough to keep busy. Donkey Sanctuary is also amazing if you've got time.
