Why do show move stuff?!

Boot today, two floors. They've flipped it back to front so cosmetics are where the holiday shop was. Suncream moved downstairs with tooth stuff and deodorant. Doesn't add anything to the layout or ease of shopping. Customers and staff confused.

Local Tesco extra has moved everything in the last week. Now th paracetamol are in the magazines next to the dog food. It just doesn't make sense.

It used to be said that it was to make shoppers go in parts of the store they wouldn't usually visit as a kind of marketing exercise but I dont know if that's still the case

My local Tesco has recently moved some stuff around too, all it does is make my shop take longer as I have to double back to look for things

I don't care what is next to what as long as I know where things are

What’s particularly annoying is looking at the signs, finding the one that says sausages, then finding out it’s actually pickles. They’ve moved the good around, but not the signs.

So you walk around looking for what you want and then impulse buy things you wouldn't have normally walked last.

I'd say it has the reverse effect on me - I walk round and round trying to find the thing I want, give up in frustration and go to buy it somewhere else.

Eg: Where have you put the sodding couscous this time, Morrisons?

As a neurodivergent person, it infuriates me when shops move everything around just for the sake of it.

I think it’s to distract you when they put up the prices, you relived to find it that you don’t notice it

leeverarch · 20/07/2024 14:15

I also think they do it to give them the opportunity of discontinuing own-brand value ranges, so when you can't find it, you buy the dearer one.

<Yes, you again, Morrisons>

Another supermarket trend annoying me is the doors on fridges. I get that they're there for the sensible reason of energy efficiency, but that's not much consolation when I get home and find that I've bought very little fresh food because I couldn't see the displays behind the reflections, so couldn't buy what I couldn't see because I lost the visual prompt that I needed it.

Aldi's seem to be particularly badly designed.

Doesn't matter where they move things, I still can never find the bloody razors. I swear that section is in the Harry Potter room of requirement! Every bloody time I'm traipsing around with no bloody clue!

DeathpunchDan · 20/07/2024 21:07

Its all down to marketing. There's a whole shopping based science behind it to maximise profits. Annoying as it is for those who pay their wages
