Laundry help - stubborn stains

I've got 6 wrecked tops so desperately hoping for a solution. After a normal wash with vanish oxy some items came out of the machine with yellow and pink stains. The tops are all white so I rewashed with a beckmans glow white sachet (no effect) then soaked in Milton for over 24 hours and rewashed. Still no effect. Any ideas please? Bleach?

Soak in soda crystals. It got those yellow stains out of some pillows

Sunshine! Eco bleach/ sodium percarbonate is good too.
Be careful if using regular bleach products as in can weaken the fabric structure
Do you know what the marks are caused by? Suncream is terrible to get out, I always spray with elbow grease and it works well

Sunshine. If you have any...

What are the stains?

Fairy liquid dabbed straight onto the stain if it's a food stain. Then into your normal wash and out onto the washing line with the stained side facing towards the sun.
Boom!

It has been mentioned, but any idea what the stains are? Some treatments, on some fabrics, make the issue worse. I use a variety of methods, but know that sunscreen makes some fabrics yellow, some fabrics hold on to stains for dear life and others need to be dealt with quickly. I use Elbow Grease for grease / curry / make up marks, but without knowing what and the fabric mix, hard to say what will do the trick. Many soap powders have very little impact on stains unless on a hot wash / a wash where sufficient water is used.

Turmeric will never come out - if that’s what it is. Curry?

Wahine24 · 17/07/2024 17:38

Also bleach products turn suncream pink .... Never to be removed again!

Swisscave · 17/07/2024 17:42

Depends at what temp you washed the tops at. Unless it was a cold wash, you’ve probably set the stain and will be difficult to remove.

If you get a stain on clothing, Scrub with soap and a clothes brush (or nail brush if you haven’t got one) with cold water. Then put on a a cold wash (20), twice if need be and most stains will fade down or disappear

leeverarch · 17/07/2024 17:44

It will depend what has caused the stains and how hot you can wash the items.

I wonder if it is suncream turned pink by the vanish - although there is a healthy yellow and pink mix and it was across a few white items, including a towel that was nowhere near suncream. One of my t-shirts has a large bright pink and yellow mixed stain right in the middle of the sleeve and nowhere else. I have no idea what it is but i suspect it was the culprit. I'm happy to risk anything rather than just bin them. Most are linen or cotton so fairly robust. Sunshine will not cut it - the stains are too bright. I'll try some of the above though and let you know of any success. Thanks x

@TheDuckSaysMoo you can try googling suncream pink stain, there's quite a list of "solutions" that might work for you , fingers crossed

BrownOwlknowsbest · 17/07/2024 21:16

Try hydrogen peroxide. The chemist will have it, dab it on the stains until they fade and then wash. Works on most things.

TheDuckSaysMoo · 28/07/2024 15:10

Update: I tried the soda crystals and it got 90% of the yellow and all of the pink out. They are hanging in the sun now and hopefully that will sort the last 10%. If not, I'll rewash with soda crystals again. Thanks all for your help x
