Do Americans not cut their sliced bread sandwiches?

I've often noticed that Americans on TV never seem to cut their sandwiches in half ) or quarters like British people.
Is this a thing? Does it depend on the filling?
Do some of you not cut your sandwiches?

Thinking sliced bread type of sarnies here, not baguettes or paninis etc.

I'm bringing my American grandsons to Scotland in September and they are desperate to try beans on toast, black pudding and haggis. They also love all the chocolate and biscuits from the Uk, and even they know it's far superior to what is commonly sold here.

I'd recommend finding the nicest full Scottish breakfast you can for the black pudding and beans.
Haggis is bloody amazing served with neeps and tatties and either a whisky or peppercorn sauce.

Chocolate-wise, grab some Galaxy and Lintd. And Green & Blacks.

Oh, you can mail order British or Irish style back bacon, but it hasn't caught on properly. I smell a market opportunity. Canadian bacon doesn't have that eye from the belly or the fat round the outside -- it's just the lean part of the loin.

I don't eat bacon, but I do know that American bacon is not only streaky but always smoked. the only thing they have here like unsmoked bacon is pancetta.

Ah ok that is good to know. Although some are saying it's not the same, clearly the only thing for me to do is come over and taste test them all 😃
Tbh I'm not too keen on British chocolate atm, but that's a whole other thread!

Sorry, but I for one have to disagree about the Lindt chocolate... I cannot go near their truffles, although I may be biased due to a terrible accident I suffered one Christmas, when I accidentally ate an entire box in one evening. I cannot look one in the eye.

I’m American. Butter on a meat sandwich seems weird to me, and electric kettles are a popular item in the US.

Canadian bacon, at least what is sold in our grocery store, can be fried for breakfast, but it's sold already cooked, so it can be used as a cold cut.

Oooft. They are the tastiest balls of deliciousness, but if I ate a whole box in an evening I would projectile vomit all over the carpet. That was brave. 😂

I am very, very accident prone. I once went into Argos for a 2-slice toaster and accidentally came away with a matching kettle & a microwave oven that I ABSOLUTELY DID NOT NEED.

I'm Canadian, not American so I didn't know you eat cold Canadian bacon (we call it back bacon or peameal bacon if it has a coating of peameal on the outside) in the US. We buy it raw and fry it. Frankly, eating cold back bacon doesn't sound very appealing.

Oh my God I actually have an answer for this one!

Apparently the reason is that viewers subconsciously find the act of a character carrying a bag when they can’t tell what’s in it really distracting, even when context is obvious (eg. We’ve just seen them doing a food shop). So they use the handle-less (probably not a word?) brown paper ones so that it makes sense that a couple of items are sticking out, and viewers can focus on what’s actually going on in a scene.

I swear I read this explanation somewhere years ago in response to a question like ‘why does every TV/movie character in all of screen history have to buy a baguette when they go shopping?’. I’ve no idea as to the veracity of it but it’s really helped to stop this quirk annoying me so much.

That, @PossumintheHouse , is a very sore point...I had a 4-slice already, I wanted another 4-slice, but alas when Morphy Richards brought out their new shiny red & black range (this was 2007) they did not do a 4-slice at the time. But I was determined to have their red & black toaster for my new kitchen as it was to die for.

Of course, I was a lot younger then. I struggle to get excited about anything these days.

That's all very well & good, until you see someone carrying a bag marked "Ann Summers" and that sure isn't a baguette sticking out.

Which in itself is quite distracting and thus defeats the object.

Wegmans banned plastic bags, so now it's bring your own or you buy the handle-less paper ones for 5¢ each.

Although my American friends tell me when they were kids, you got the brown paper bags from the store, and you saved them and used them to cover your schoolbooks. It seems it was required? A friend swears she could still make the covers if you gave her a bag, scissors, and a roll of tape.

@knitnerd90 yes we did this on the first day of school, as well as writing your name and year on the slip of paper (like library books used to have) on the inside cover. Our grocery store had handled paper bags although I don't remember if we had to bring our own.

I live in North America, in the north American country with the largest population of all the North American countries.

I'm not spreading misconceptions. I have some Canadian bacon in my fridge that I bought on Saturday. It was in the deli section of my local supermarket - I ordered a quarter pound and the deli man sliced it, weighed it, and wrapped it. I had a slice with cheese and tomato on a croissant for lunch.

The deli cut is pork loin, cured, smoked and cooked, then sliced however you want at the deli counter. It tastes like a nicely smoked slice of ham but with a more chewy texture.
