Does anyone use a menstrual/moon cup? Would you recommend one?

I currently use tampax exclusively but have heard they can contain lead and other harmful substances. While investigating organic alternatives I’ve come across menstrual cups which sound like a good solution but not sure if they leak etc. Can anyone enlighten me?

I'm past that now but did use a mooncup for years (from mid 30s to menopause). It took me a couple of goes to find the right size. I'm very small & the 'right' one for age / vaginal birth leaked & shifted for me.

But then the second one was a transformation, & I didn't need to buy any more sanpro for the following 15+ years, so the investment really paid off.
I found it didn't leak at all & was much more comfy than tampons

I used one for 10 years, absolutely brilliant. The trick is to give it half a turn once inserted and that seals it so it doesn't leak.

I should say for me though that I'd used washable towels whenever I was heavy since my 20s, so I had no issue with the ick factor Grin

Gosh, didn't know that about tampons!! I've used a mooncup for years and much, much prefer it to any other form of sanpro. It's just so much more comfortable and less faff. I admittedly don't have the heaviest of periods usually, but I empty it twice a day and don't have leaks.

Yes. I use an intimina ziggy cup. Very easy to use once you've got the hang of it, no having to buy every month, (and you can have sex with it in).

I've used one for about 9 years now - absolutely game changing. No leaks, easy to empty and re insert. Just takes a couple of attempts to get it comfortable whilst getting used to it but once you've found the knack, you don't feel it whatsoever. I recommend them to all of the females in my life!

I use the standard Mooncup brand and find that fine, there are two sizes depending on if you have had children or not. I find it much less drying than tampons.

If you are worried about leakage could combine it with a thin pad or pantyliner.

They're fine.

As long as you're careful when removing it.

Wow that’s fantastic, thanks so much I’m going to give it a try. Really appreciate the advice.

I loved my menstrual cup. Tried a Mooncup first, but I found it huge and inflexible, and settled on a Meluna without a stem, which was smaller and more flexible. Used one for about 15 years. Word to the wise: do not insert it really high. It took some gymnastics to remove it!
