Daffy Duck probably tops my list. I was never keen on Bugs Bunny - too much of a smug smart arse.

Pink Panther from the 1960s with the Inspector interval. I couldn't get on with Crazylegs Crane, Aardvark and so on.

Original Tom and Jerry, i.e. Fred Quimby productions, not Chuck Jones. It never gets dull.

Dangermouse was the best of British.

The makers of Charlie Brown had a crack at Fred Bassett in the 1970s with a Lionel Jeffries voice-over. I remember watching it at the time on BBC but it hasn't aged well.

Donald Duck and his nephews. Quacking me up every time, even if the former had a bit of an anger issue. In fact, I love almost all of the ducks at the time (bar Daisy - never warmed to her) - Scrooge McDuck, Magica, and Daffy from the Loony Tunes.

Loved Gnasher from Dennis the Menace.

I grew up in the era of increasing anime popularity in the West, so have a fair few firm favourites there. Lady Oscar was my heroine. I heard they've done a remake and a movie will be out shortly.

There was some weird and wonderful stuff when I was growing up in the 70s and 80s, such as Crystal Tipps and Alistair and Ludwig. And Boris The Bold from Czechoskovakia. Battle Of The Planets was a toned-down, cleaned-up Anglicised version of some Japanese space opera. Quite popular, as I recall.

I should say BOTP was Americanised rather than Anglicised.

The original Tom and Jerry, Top Cat, original Scooby doo, Hong Kong Phooey.Original stuff that could be enjoyed without being preachy like most stuff sadly now

Riapia · 15/07/2024 07:44

Roadrunner.
Wackey Races.
Foghorn Leghorn.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 15/07/2024 07:46

Wile.E.Coyote and Roadrunner. The timing was exquisite.

The classical music cartoons, such as Cat Concerto and What's Opera, Doc. The only exposure I had to classical music outside of school/excerpts in adverts - fairly sure I wasn't the only one.

LaMarschallin · 15/07/2024 07:46

Used to long to be in Josie and the Pussycats.
Loathed Scrappy Doo, the perky little fucker.

VenusClapTrap · 15/07/2024 07:53

I was always rooting for Tom and Sylvester rather than Jerry and Sweetie Pie.

Op was Alistair & Ludwig the thing with the egg shaped mechanical type character? I loved that, and I’ve never been able to find anyone who remembers it!

Willo-the-Wisp was one of my favourites, of the British ones.

hurklebum · 15/07/2024 07:58

Asterix (books, although the animated movie is great too).
Dangermouse.
Hong Kong Phooey.
Animaniacs.
Snoopy movie. (Not so much the shorter animations)

Never had much love for the Disney characters.

TheTecknician · 15/07/2024 08:12

@VenusClapTrap Alistair was Crystal Tipps' companion. Ludwig was indeed a multipurpose mechanical egg.

Road runner all day long. bored gc? Feeling low? Don’t know what to watch? Chuck it on.

Can’t stand anything modern, including the new Tom and Jerry etc.

Laserwho · 15/07/2024 09:00

Captain caveman, Hong Kong fooey, dangermouse, rhubarb and custard, banana man, Jamie and the magic torch, mr Ben.

Marlaysydney12 · 15/07/2024 10:44

I always though that disney characters weren't funny at all, preferred looney toons. Especially the opera specials.
I loved some of 80s cartoons, Mysterious Cities, Ulysess, thundercats too!
There was also a great feature length cartoon called Animalolympics, which I loved, but hasn't aged well.

OctoblocksAssemble · 15/07/2024 10:53

80's had some great ones, Mysterious Cities and Willy Fog were the stand outs. The 90's Spider-man was great, and Freakazoid and Power puff girls were fun.
"Stupid! Stupid! Never tell your enemy how to trap you in a cage!"
"You probably shouldn't have helped us build it either."

TheTecknician · 16/07/2024 11:15

I was never that keen on Hanna Barbera cartoons, apart from early Scooby Doo. Scrappy was a plain annoyance. Hong Kong Phooey was OK.

Best thing about Wile E. Coyote and Roadrunner was the unashamed predictability. It didn't detract from the inconsequential destruction and mayhem.

The Tex Avery cartoons of old I much preferred to the Hanna Barbera/Loony Tunes ones... more funny and creative.

Like a PP, I was always rooting for Sylvester and Tom over Tweetie and Jerry. I hate the cocky smart-arse characters.
I liked Foghorn Leghorn and Droopy the Dog.

I also remember Will o the Wisp, Ludwig and Crystal Tips and Alistair. Had a soft spot for Mr Ben, too!

Does anyone remember Barba Papa??
