What would cause someone to suddenly develop really bad snoring ? And how can you stop doing it? It’s been 8 weeks now and I keep waking myself up and yet I can’t work out why it’s started ??!!

I tried the nose strips and they didn’t work , I’ve tried having more pillows and I’ve tried just one pillow but neither helped

Weight gain is one possibility. Sleeping on your back. Allergies. Reflux. Nasal inflammation or congestion. Any kind of throat irritation. Eating late at night. Salty foods/water retention. Dehydration even. Enlarged turbinates or tonsils. And probably a few more I can't think of!

Also just regular aging can cause the tissues to become more lax. If it continues and you can't find a cause, you can get a sleep study and then look into your options to treat it.

I'm at the point of putting my hubby under the patio. He refuses to eat healthy (takeaways at least 4 times a week), no exercise and he needs to lose about 4 stone. Don't get me wrong, I'm not skeletal but I do eat very healthy during the week and max out my target for my exercise on the health insurance. He snores like a pig having a coronary and says it's not his fault (I know for a fact losing weight stops his snoring as he lost a stone when he got covid - it was like a magic act, the snoring stopped overnight). How can it not be his fault that he doesn't exercise or eat healthy? Anyways I just wanted a rant and to say I feel your pain 🤣🤣

Is the snoring making you wake up? If so I wonder if it's sleep apnea. I was diagnosed last year and now have a breathing machine at night.

Sorry I can't help as to why you have started snoring. As pp said, have there been any changes to your weight/diet etc? Does sleeping position affect it, eg on your side rather than back?

To the other poster with a snoring husband - my husband snores and it can be really hard to live with as we don't want to be in separate beds.

The thing that frustrates me is that he won't do anything about it. Like your husband, he is overweight, but also he is a mouth breather and snores when his mouth is open at night. It makes me so mad that he won't even try to breathe through his nose during the day. If he doesn't at least attempt to condition himself to do this during his conscious waking hours, there is no way he will do it when he is asleep. The fact that he won't try really frustrates me when I think about it - it's like he's saying 'I can't be bothered to make any effort to make sure you are able to sleep through the night.' I'm listening to it right now.... zzz
