Parking in Edinburgh for 3 or so days

Driving DD1 back up to Edinburgh mid August and want to stay up there for a few days (very long drive and love the city and can stay with her and her flatmates).

But, I know it's horrendous for parking.

This in the know, where can I leave the car after unpacking her stuff and taking a trip to ikea??

Any suggestions before I start googling?!

We normally use just park for London. Going to Edinburgh over summer and hoping to do the same.

CormorantStrikesBack · 14/07/2024 17:34

I’ve used parkonmydrive type thing before which worked well.

haveanothercup · 14/07/2024 17:37

There is plenty of unrestricted on street parking not far from the centre. Whereabouts in Edinburgh do you want to be?

drspouse · 14/07/2024 17:49

My mum goes often as my DB lives there, she parks just outside the residents/central parking zone I think.

Try Ferrytoll Park and Ride in Inverkeithing, which is on the other side of the Forth Bridge. I think long term parking is free and it's only about half an hour into the centre on the bus.

Premier inn, Edinburgh park. Dunno the charges if you aren’t staying there but there are always spaces and there is both tram and train across the road. I mean if you were a bit dishonest you could use the little terminal to enter your registration as the parking isn’t linked to your booking….😗

Thank you all, lots of suggestions.

She will be living in Rankellior Street EH8.

No idea where that is in relation to anywhere although I do know it's about 15 mins from halls of residence she was in at Warrender Park Cresent EH9.

Somewhere that will cost me as little as possible is my goal. Also conscious that the Fringe will be on so it'll be busy.

I'll check out Justpark as I have used that before. Didn't know you could use it overnight.

@haveanothercup I don't mind walking so if there are places I could park that are free / cost very little, that would be amazing.

@BashfulClam Grin I like this!

I know nothing!

On street parking around Prestonfield Rd is all free and unrestricted, that's not too far away. You just need to be outside the controlled parking areas, there's a map on the council website.

Coldupnorth87 · 14/07/2024 19:12

I used to live on a street that was immediately outside the cpz. It was a nightmare as people parked for work & walked in, so rarely got to park near our flat.

So try to be considerate. The buses in Edinburgh are great, so parking a bit further out will be fine.

sishoes · 14/07/2024 19:14

QPark. Secure

EmmyPankhurst · 14/07/2024 19:17

FGS don't go to Inverkeithing.

Look up the controlled parking zone map on the council website and plan accordingly.

Chrispackhamspoodle · 14/07/2024 19:36

I used just park in Edinburgh recently for uni open day.Parked right near The Meadows for £25 for 48hrs.

mizu · 14/07/2024 19:39

@EmmyPankhurst Grin it is quite far!

Won't it be even busier due to Edinburgh festival?

mizu · 19/08/2024 08:28

@haveanothercup just to say thank you for the info on parking. This road was great - and as you said lots of space so I didn't feel bad about taking people's places, there really was plenty of room.

It was a very manageable 25 minute walk to DD accommodation. And free! Very much appreciated after a 6+ hour drive.
