Is there a time that children aren't allowed in pubs?

Thinking of taking DC to watch England tonight at the pub, but will it be too late? Seeing as kick off is 8pm.

Unsure if there's a blanket rule?

Often 8pm depending where you are and license type. I wouldn’t take kids to a pub tonight anywhere in England.

Witchbitch20 · 14/07/2024 13:55

Why?

Don't you have a TV at home? I just don’t understand why an adult environment (pub) is the place to take children?

Depends on the pub/ area in some cases. 9pm for some, not in the bar area for others.

Depends on the pub and the age of the child. It’s normally about 5pm but where I live kids can be in the pub till 10pm, sometimes later watching this weeks ‘Dad” drinking eight pints of Stella before vomiting in the car park.

There's plenty of child-friendly pubs. Pretty normal in British culture.

I'm not taking him to the casino.

Most will be all booked up already.

OhHelloMiss · 14/07/2024 13:59

It will be on your near enough 11pm

Not the time or place for kids

AnnaMagnani · 14/07/2024 13:59

Would absolutely depend on the pub.

There are pubs you would happily take your kids to at anytime of day and ones where you would never let them out of the car park.

BIWI · 14/07/2024 13:59

How old are they?

OhHelloMiss · 14/07/2024 13:59

And yes, you mostly have to book...do they have places left?

WiseBiscuit · 14/07/2024 14:00

Depends on the pub, it’s 7pm at our local.
It’s a really small village pub. There’s another larger one that has a designated family area with no restrictions. So it really varies. I wouldn’t take a child to watch this particular match though. I think it’s wholly inappropriate.

Beezknees · 14/07/2024 14:01

Depends on the pub and child age. I wouldn't have taken mine to a place where there's loads of drunk blokes effing and jeffing.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 14/07/2024 14:05

Ours is 9pm.

But, I wouldn't take children to a pub for this game. I'm pretty relaxed, we take our kids to the pub regularly and we play pool together. But thus will be drunk, rowdy chaotic pubs tonight and nowhere for a child to be especially on a school night.

I am.

Especially in pubs without children.

HRTQueen · 14/07/2024 14:12

Some pubs are not very much family places to go

the right pub the atmosphere will be great and it’s a special event so many children are so excited about the football it’s a special event one night late to bed isn’t such a big deal

its is finding the right pub

HRTQueen · 14/07/2024 14:12

I meant some pubs are very much family places …

Shybutrude · 14/07/2024 14:20

@avarteayaya ring the pub, so if they say no you've got time to try elsewhere or make different plans

TakeOnFlea · 14/07/2024 14:22

Depends on the pub. Plenty round here fully family friendly and welcoming kids to watch the match.

Not after 8 normally.

The law is 9pm though (Licensing Act 2003). Doesn’t matter how ‘fully friendly’ they are. The law says that after 9pm pubs are primarily for the sale of alcohol and so children are not permitted.

HRTQueen · 14/07/2024 14:28

I’ve certainly been in a pub later that 9 with ds

so I am not sure how the pubs get around this

samedifferent · 14/07/2024 14:46

I would have significant doubts about taking dc to a pub to watch such an emotionally fueled game. I certainly wouldn't do it if I didn't know the pub well and the people likely to be in it.

I am an Operations Director for a national pub company. We are family friendly but we have restricted this evening to over 18 only. Tonight is not the evening to take children to the pub. Has the potential to get very messy and if England don’t win, quite possibly riotous.

Wholly inappropriate why?
