If you unexpectedly get pregnant can you add a baby to a holiday and flights ?

I was thinking of booking a holiday but we’ve been ttc another baby for a long time - if I booked and then by some miracle it did happen can you just add another child ? Or will it mess it all up ?

*never been abroad before so totally new to this and don’t want to mess up !

How far ahead are you thinking of booking?! You're not even pregnant yet

BingoMarieHeeler · 14/07/2024 11:45

Yes :)

As a lap infant yes, you just call them to do it and pay whatever it costs (unless it’s domestic US then it’s free).

Yes the only risk is if you are 35+ weeks when pregnant xx

longdistanceclaraclara · 14/07/2024 11:47

Yes! You'll need to have enough time to sort a passport though

Alwayswonderedwhy · 14/07/2024 11:47

How far ahead are you planning on booking? You also need to consider that different airlines have different rules on how many weeks pregnant they allow you to fly..

Bjorkdidit · 14/07/2024 11:50

Adding a baby on will be easy - you don't need an extra seat on the flight and you'll just be able to add a cot onto your accommodation booking.

If it's a package booking you might be able to change the date for a fee if it ends up that the holiday coincides with very late into the pregnancy or when you have a very new newborn. So don't book a flight and separate accommodation as it will likely be that you'll lose the flights if you don't travel.

Different airlines have different rules regarding amending bookings. I needed to change an easyJet one recently as I'd made a typo in a DC name - I'm sure I spotted something about adding a child/infant in the T&Cs when I was checking how to change the typo (not the point but changing a typo is free for easyJet, up to a certain number of characters I think).
If you know which airline/s is/are likely, have a google/check their T&Cs.

That’s my other concern. I think it’s unlikely to happen as it’s taking so long but I feel like if I book something then if it does I’d have to work out what to do. I’m probably worrying over nothing as been trying for 3 years !

I've done this, it was free with jet 2 but £75 with TUI. Really easy to do, I'd avoid TUI though as they are a bugger for hidden charges.

Thankyou that’s really helpful. I just want something to look forward to but have in the back of my mind what if it finally happens ! This thread has put my mind at rest though that it’s not difficult to add an extra person if needs be so I’m reassured thankyou!

Yes but be mindful you can't fly if very pregnant and you'll need time to get your new baby a passport I wouldn't go anywhere for the first 8 weeks when they're still little and vulnerable

rookiemere · 14/07/2024 12:47

With jet2 packages it used to be you could cancel and lose just £60 per person provided you did it at least 90 days in advance,

LittleGreenDuck · 14/07/2024 13:04

Yes, you can also book when you're pregnant for "unknown infant". I did this when pregnant with DS2 and then just added his name when he was born.

Jeezitneverends · 14/07/2024 13:06

You do know Sod’s Law says if you don’t book a holiday ahead you unfortunately won’t get pregnant and if you do book one, you’ll get pregnant, so get it booked! Good luck 🤞🏼🍀

Perhaps ask a couple of travel insurance companies if their policies cover "pregnancy".

Your Dr might be able to sign you off as unfit to fly if you are heavily pregnant or have recently given birth.

Good luck
