Is there anything I can do with these candles?

Got some of those lovely light-up candles at Xmas (they respond to heat, so when you light the candle the little lights light up). The candle is now burned out so the lights don't come on. Is there any way to refill the candle and make the lights come on?

Is there anything I can do with these candles?

I’ve no idea if the lights will work, but I melt the remains of candles to make a new one, just need to buy new wicks.

I have the blue one.

I used t-lights last christmas and the effect was quite good but it's a pity the battery in the lights no longer work and there's no way of replacing. That's the thing that makes it magical.

What about a tea light?

I've tried tea lights, but they don't make the whole candle light up. Such a shame. Would be so much better if they were more reusable.

The candle here is totally gone. All that's left is the clear squishy stuff around the outside, which the lights are embedded into.

Ease the wax remnant out with a butter knife.

Then add almost boiling water to melt whatever is left and put it into kitchen roll
or brown paper in the sink to catch the molten wax.

Then wash them up and use them as votive holders (tea light might be too small to warm the sides enough).

IDK if they light up mechanism will still work but it's worth a try.

Watching with interest as I have the M&S London sky line ones.

LiterallyOnFire · 13/07/2024 16:12

Oh I think I misunderstood. Sorry.

But definitely try votive candles. They are just a bit bigger.

Allthehorsesintheworld · 13/07/2024 16:17

Soy wax and candle wicks? Melt the soy wax, warm the jar as this prevents wax sinking as it cools and sets. Put a long wick in the centre. Gently pour in the molten soy wax. 2 pens/pencils/ kebabs sticks across the top of the jar will keep the wick in place. If you want you can glue the wick to the base as most wicks come with little metal wick holders.

I saw these wax beads advertised somewhere and I've been meaning to try them for some nice containers I have. Might work well, let me know if you do try it.

I tried this and it didn’t work.

Ah that's a shame. I do it with nice candle jars because I've felt guilty about throwing them but IDK about the light up ones.

Tulipvase · 13/07/2024 21:07

Have you tried the bigger tea lights? Waitrose do some that are a couple of inches across. I assume they give off more heat.

outdamnedspots · 13/07/2024 21:58

Not enough heat. I think there's an electric contact under the glass that holds the original candle, so when you light it it automatically lights the lights. A replacement candle doesn't seem to work 😬🙄

What about pouring hot water in
