Liverpool - nearby best seaside/beach resort?

CornishTeaTime · 13/07/2024 12:36

Can you recommend???

We are already staying in Liverpool for 2 nights then want to spend 4-5 days at a nearby nice beach/seaside resort etc.

No kids just me and DH so something that has a nice town/village near a beach for relaxing, nice beach walks, beach bar may be, good pubs for food etc.

CornishTeaTime · 13/07/2024 12:48

Llandudno is quite nice also formby

Aussiegold · 13/07/2024 12:51

West kirby/Caldy has great beach, nice pubs and restaurants and you can walk out to Hilbre Island and seal watch!

NigelHarmansNewWife · 13/07/2024 12:52

Formby. You can go by train and walk to the National Trust dunes. There are red squirrels there.

Tisfortired · 13/07/2024 12:52

Formby is lovely, we go a lot. The only thing about it is there are no ice cream shops/fish and chips/bucket and spades fare on or near the beach - we learnt that the hard way the first time we went! We now always take a picnic. The town of Formby itself (no offence to anybody from Formby) was also a little boring/not much there so it depends what you want.

No it would be a couple of hours to get to Anglesey.

closer to the east, you have Llandudno and Colwyn bay which are nice

hellolittleduck · 13/07/2024 12:55

North Wales will be your best bet. Llandudno has always been a personal favourite but only if the sun is out. Merseyside beaches aren't great in general.

CornishTeaTime · 13/07/2024 12:56

What about Caernarfon, Ive found a good hotel there but not sure if it's beachy enough???

Formby beach is brilliant, but you need to take a picnic

It’s very close to angelsey so also just under 2 hours from Liverpool. But it’s a good place to visit because you can go over the bridge into Anglesey where the beaches are gorgeous, it has a castle, lovely scenery.

AdaColeman · 13/07/2024 13:08

Morecambe Bay, stay at the iconic Art Deco Midland Hotel.

Soozikinzii · 13/07/2024 13:15

Formby is nice and Crosby has the statues by the same bloke as angel of the North . Llandudno is a nice beach and Bennllech on Anglesey is absolutely beautiful. All of the beaches on Anglesey are beautiful .

Gymmum82 · 13/07/2024 14:07

Talacre beach in north wales is also nice

DillyDeclutter · 13/07/2024 14:14

Llandudno your closest classic British beach resort. Southport is OK. I wouldn't personally go for West Kirby or New Brighton, they are more suburbs that happen to be by the sea.

Formby and Crosby beaches are nice but not much nearby.

maximist · 13/07/2024 14:20

Anglesey is further than an hour, but it's an easy drive along the A55 expressway. Trearddur Bay has fantastic beaches.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 13/07/2024 14:27

New Brighton
Crosby.

Tunder · 13/07/2024 14:36

Whilst the beach isn’t quite like those in north Wales, Crosby beach at the Waterloo/Marina end fits the bill. Currently has this on the promenade http://thebusyard.co.uk/. Waterloo has lots of bars and restaurants and is right on the train line.

The Bus Yard

The Bus Yard is a street food resturant based in Liverpool.

Oh and it just made the Sunday Times best places to live www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/merseyside-area-named-one-uks-29501473#lyfz06mr9tyvn2meut7

AuntieSoap · 13/07/2024 15:36

Definitely North Wales. Llandudno is beautiful, still got an elegance and charm which lots of seaside resorts don't have any more. There is loads to do for kids round there too, cable car up the Great Orme with mini golf and a play area at the top, and bobsleigh halfway up.
Conwy is nearby for the castle (great day out) and the UK's smallest house.
Colwyn Bay is also close where you've got Welsh Mountain Zoo.
I grew up in Liverpool (moved away) and I take my kids back to North Wales sometimes. It's still great.

Twodozenroses · 13/07/2024 15:37

Gymmum82 · 13/07/2024 14:07

I would say talacre is ok for a walk but not so great if you want to go paddling in the sea. If the tides out you have to walk through all the muddy clay like sand which is a nightmare to wash off!

AuntieSoap · 13/07/2024 15:38

Agh, just read that you've got NO kids! Sorry, misread your post.
Still recommend North Wales though. Portmeirion is a good day out. A bit more than an hour away from Liverpool though.

TossieFleacake · 13/07/2024 15:41

West kirby on the Wirral.
Lovely beaches, you can time the tides and walk to hilbre island, loads of lovely cafes, bars, restaurants.
Lots of other lovely walks in that area too.

Editing to add its on a direct train line from Liverpool too.
