Didn’t know he worked pro bono for the longest libel trial in however long, Mclibel trial involving Greenpeace. Quite dishy at the start 😂

Never-before-seen interviews with Keir Starmer, 1996-2004

These exclusive clips of Keir Starmer provide a candid view of his involvement in the famous McLibel trial, in which he provided free legal services to the d...

If anyone bothers to research at all they will see KS is a decent and intelligent man who has got to where he now is through his own efforts and has managed to maintain his humanity throughout.

LiterallyOnFire · 13/07/2024 00:17

I remember fancying him when he had a column in the Guardian 20+ years ago. I was worrying about my younger self lately so it's a relief to see that, yes, he was once sexier than he is now. Blush

sausageupanalley · 13/07/2024 00:54

I think I've grown a bit of a crush on him. He is so decent and principled. Sounds like he is very supportive of his wife, is guarding his children's privacy carefully and he is a veggie! Seems like a great guy and I think he's still quite hot! His new glasses look great!

DontThinkJustDo · 13/07/2024 01:24

I had a saucy dream about him last night blush

decionsdecisions62 · 13/07/2024 03:49

I had one about James blunt last night. The poshos have invaded our dreams!

BeaSure · 13/07/2024 05:00

Anyone going to admit to a saucy dream about Jacob Rees Mogg?!

I agree Sir Keir seems a man of principle but ... he allowed one of his female MPs - Rosie Duffield - to be bullied by her fellow MPs and TRAs. I hope he is stronger on women's rights as PM than he was in Opposition.

whinginglittlefucker · 13/07/2024 10:37

Helen Steel (who I have always admired). Her statement on the events at the Anarchist Book Fair in 2017 was my first awareness of the way women who have gender critical views were being physically intimidated and threatened. it's powerful testimony from a person of clear integrity. I was shocked, as someone who had always been hugely sympathetic to trans people. I wonder if Sir Keir ever read it.

SquirrelSoShiny · 13/07/2024 10:42

I think the legacy he has been building is in danger of being badly stained by his unwillingness to defend women in society and in the Labour Party.

Alfreddoeblin · 13/07/2024 16:21

This thread isn’t about trans stuff.

This thread isn’t about trans stuff.

It is what's disappointed a lot of us left wing women, though.

Kitkat1523 · 13/07/2024 16:38

I like Keir

FloofPaws · 13/07/2024 17:08

He seems like a decent and capable person, I hope he really takes control and sorts out some of the mess the Tory thieves fucked up ... where to bloody start though!! 🙃

No. Because if you include that, you couldn't call him a decent and principled man.

Oblomov24 · 13/07/2024 17:16

He's a great solicitor, good man, incredibly intelligent. Was that ever in doubt? Many of us have just been disappointed since he became leader, that's all.

TheQueenWhoNeverWas · 13/07/2024 17:21

Blimey, I did know that Starmer gave huge assistance in the McLibel case, but literally just realised that Helen McLibel Steel was one of the victims in the Spycops case, and also at the centre of the Anarchist Book Fair Events.
The things you learn on Mumsnet/Wikipedia.

pinkspeakers · 13/07/2024 17:25

I don't think it's a different side. I think he is very much the same person, albeit 30 years older.

On the basis of one issue ?

I’m actually quite impressed by him. More so since he became leader.

I'm taking about the rights of women and girls. I'll bring that up on any thread I like. Especially one discussing the integrity of our new PM.

That was very interesting. Thanks for sharing. Lovely man.

What the actual fuck?! What were you expecting of him in a week?!

CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment · 13/07/2024 20:23

I'm curious to see what happens, he's a blank slate as a leader because he hasn't really taken strong positions on anything, and the tories have been in power for so long. Not that their track record with women's rights was so great although they started to pay some lip service.

Yes he was adorable back then, a little bit geek chic.

BIWI · 13/07/2024 20:26

Ah - I think I see what you mean/how I've misunderstood you @Oblomov24

You mean since he became leader of the Labour Party, not Prime Minister.
