Golden wedding anniversary gift ideas

I'm after something sort of relevant to the golden theme, but not twee, IYSWIM! It's for close relatives.

I quite like the idea of a plant/potted tree, and maybe a personalised (tastefully!) plant pot. Not sold on that though. I also like the idea of glassware or nice crockery, potentially, but gold crockery is unlikely to make the tasteful lost I guess.

Has anyone seen/received/given anything a bit more unusual, that still sort of fits the theme? I know what church they were married in (although it isn't there any more). They wouldn't really appreciate a voucher or anything like that - I think something tangible is better - but they're not really into ornaments. They don't really drink much, don't travel a great deal, and do have quite a nice garden but are not serious gardeners.

Any thoughts appreciated!

Golden pear tree plant?
A photo of their wedding in a subtle golden frame?

I got my parents a special golden rose bush for their anniversary and they loved it

We gave parents In law a rose plant in a pot - am sure it had gold or golden as part of its name. Think we ordered from internet.

These pots are very nice - could add a plant with a suitable name

There is a rose called Golden Wedding which should be widely available at garden centres. There is also a camellia named Golden Anniversary which would be something a bit different.

A watch each?

LaRevolution · 12/07/2024 23:54

Thanks all - plants do seem like the way to go for tasteful! @AdaColeman I've seen that camellia and I do prefer it to the yellow rose, so I think that's my current pref. @Defiantlynot41 that pot is quite nice, thanks - I did have a quick look on NOTHS but quickly got bogged down in the personalised golden cushions and gilded cut-outs in box frames, which are very much not what I'm going for!! They wouldn't know what to do with a framed heart print, God love 'em. I do quite like the idea of a small sketch of the church they were married in but I only have a blurry photo of the whole thing.

@KnickerlessParsons, that would be lovely but they're very much the kind of people who'd be faintly horrified because they've already both got a watch they've had for 20 years each 😁

I wouldn't go for anything crockery/cutlery etc. My parents only made it to Ruby (DDad died of cancer a couple of years later) but they still had tons of items from when they married and only got out for Christmas etc.

If they have a garden a plant is a good choice. We gave my parents a holiday trip for their Ruby one, presented in a ruby coloured booklet.

Another idea is to get a pretty basket, tie on a gold ribbon, and fill the basket with things with Gold in the name. There will be tea, coffee, biscuits, chocolates, honey, maple syrup, Prosecco, and fruits such as golden kiwi fruits if fresh items would be convenient.

A fun thing to do if you've got the time.

I bought my parents 50 daffodil bulbs and got their DGc to plant them
