Holly Willoughby case.. 15 years isn't long enough

Houseplanter · 12/07/2024 22:20

I watched the judge summing up and sentencing earlier

He's been found guilty of planning the most horrendous things, and understandably they have been life changing for Holly on every level.

Sentenced to 15 years, which I doubt he will serve

I just can't get my head round it.

Forgive me if I sound uncaring, I truly do feel for Holly and I'm glad this POS is behind bars, but if she wasn't a celebrity he wouldn't have got a sentence like that. As horrific as plumb is, even the judge felt he'd be unlikely to be able to actually do any of what he was talking about.

My friends ex partner tried to kill her, as in physically attempted to murder her on the spot. She was stabbed, slashed and had her head stamped on repeatedly. She was in a coma for weeks and is left with permanent brain damage, he got 10 years (not a life sentence).

It's absolutely bullshit how 'normal' women are treat as less important.

You serve 50 percent of your sentence. He’s already done some if he was on remand.

He weighs 35 stone. Nature might fix this.

Isn't the 15 years his minimum sentence in this case? Not the whole sentence - which is life I think?

TeenagersAngst · 14/07/2024 08:59

Why are so many people spouting shite on this thread? He doesn't have a 15 year sentence.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 14/07/2024 09:04

He only planned something, and likely was incapable of carrying it out. Plenty people have actually committed the crime he planned and received similar or lesser sentences. His sentence is a life sentence with a minimum term of 15 years and 85 days which I imagine is mainly due to Holly being in the public eye. If she was Sally from Wigan the interest would not have been so great.

Absolutely. I have worked with abusers who have caused considerable harm to their victims and had no where near a sentence like this.

TheGriffle · 14/07/2024 09:15

I thought it was a rather harsh sentence for the crime. People can actually attempt murder and rape, not just plan it and get less time than that.

ArseholeCatIsABlackAndWhiteCat · 14/07/2024 09:22

It's a good sentence for the crime. Now , if only all other crimes against women would be adequately sentenced, that would be great.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 14/07/2024 09:25

He was still at the planning stage but he already had a criminal record from two previous attempted abductions. There was every reason to think he would have tried to carry out his insane plans. He would probably have failed but he's better locked up now so he can't terrorise any other women. What a worthless human being he is.

bloodyeffinnora · 14/07/2024 09:25

people have tortured and beaten their stepchildren/ children to death and not been given this long a sentence, it's all because Holly Willoughby is famous.

stardust777 · 14/07/2024 09:26

I'm glad that he received the sentence that he did. Given that he tried to recruit accomplices, I question whether his argument that he was incapable of carrying out his vile plan was valid. I feel sorry for all of his victims.

ArseholeCatIsABlackAndWhiteCat · 14/07/2024 09:28

2006: Plumb attempts to kidnap two air hostesses on trains in separate incidents
2007: He pleads guilty to two counts of attempted kidnap, and is later sentenced to a prison term of 12 months, suspended for two years, with supervision and activity requirements
2008: Plumb attempts to falsely imprison two 16-year-old girls at a shop, tying one victim’s hands behind their back with rope and tape. He later pleads guilty to two counts of false imprisonment, and is later jailed for 32 months – he serves 16 months of the sentence in prison

But surely it's good that he got a long sentence and it was taken seriously.

That should be the case for everyone.

Rather than thinking 'it's a bit harsh because she's a celebrity] we need to change our thinking to [that's too lenient, it should always be higher] when it comes to crimes like this.

We need to up the ante, not bring everything down to the lower sentencing level.

DancingLions · 14/07/2024 09:30

I think the bigger scandal is the fact he tried twice before to abduct women in person (so past the planning stage), and only got suspended sentences for those offences!!

On the one hand, those women must be glad he’s locked up now. But on the other, I would be pretty upset to find it’s only taken seriously when he’s after someone famous.

Those victims would have felt let down at the time and probably more so now.

AmandaHoldensLips · 14/07/2024 09:30

It was a high-profile case because it involved a well-known celebrity.

Hence the sentence.

Whereas the two previous crimes he was convicted of resulted in a suspended sentence. We're talking kidnapping and proof of similar planning - imprisoning two young women (or were they girls?). Which tells us everything we need to know about crimes against women and girls not being taken seriously.

It's fucking sickening.

Longma · 14/07/2024 09:31

Wasn't it the case that he was already recruiting others into his plan? So his physical state could be gotten around - he was getting others involved who, would be able to do some of the legwork.

And weren't other women involved previously, and as part of the current plans? Didn't he have previous investigations against him, against other women? So it was a case of his planning and crimes esculating?

He absolutely will serve it fully and I doubt he will ever get parole - the judge was very clear that was not a given.

Marblessolveeverything · 14/07/2024 09:36

To be honest myself and my 16 year old son were discussing it was a lot longer sentence given the recent sentences handed down.

Just to be clear I feel a longer sentence clearly stated was appropriate.

We are in Ireland and seeing suspended 3 year sentences where a woman is lucky to be alive 🤦‍♀️.

Bigpaintinglittlepainting · 14/07/2024 09:37

The sentence will be due to his previous convictions and that the judge considered that it would have been carried out if he had found accomplices.

It's a life sentence and he will be assessed in prison if he is still a danger to society if he goes for parole. I bet he never leaves prison.

Loopytiles · 14/07/2024 09:37

Yes, this sentence was actually OK. The problems were the sentences for his preceding crimes.

That's the point I'm making. If a life tariff is given for this then why is Sally from Wigan still looking over her shoulder? His sentence is harsh compared to what others have been given for worse crimes. I have no interest in lowering the bar, I'm happy he is imprisoned but I want justice for all. We need a level playing field.

ArseholeCatIsABlackAndWhiteCat · 14/07/2024 10:13

@Longma it's good that a dangerous man was taken off the street.

It's not good that it took a celebrity as a victim to actually be taken seriously and an adequate sentence to be given.

He attempted to kidnap two women, please guilty, got 12 month suspended.

He falsely imprisoned two 16 yos (tied one up ffs) , please guilty got 16 months inside.

That's him actually interacting and putting his hands on these women.

KnitnNatterAuntie · 14/07/2024 13:39

DrRiverSong · 12/07/2024 22:38

His is a whole life tariff with a minimum term of 15 years and 85 days. He’ll serve every minute of it and, unless he can persuade the parole board he’s no longer a danger after that time, probably more.

Edited

It isn't a "whole life tariff" . . . it's a life sentence. He can apply for parole after he has served the minimum number of years stipulated by the judge, which in this case is 16 years. If he is ever realeased he will be on a licence for the rest of his life.

A whole life tariff is only given in rare cases such as Wayne Couzens, Levi Bellfield and Lucy Letby. In these cases there is no possibility of parole.

OonaStubbs · 05/09/2024 23:18

A life sentence should mean life in prison. No ifs, no buts. You are locked in a cell and stay there until you are dead. Call the sentences where you are "on licence" something else.
