Building regs- do I need architectural plans or can I do it myself?

I’m submitting a notice to building regulations that I am having some work done- a garage conversion. The form has to be submitted at least 48 hours before building commences.

the builder came round and I showed him what I wanted done- walls insulated, garage door replaced with bricks and a window, stud wall with door separating the garage into 2 rooms. It’s pretty simple. He’s happy to do it without plans. The form I’ve to fill in for building regulations asks who has designed the plans- should I just say me or should I get an architect involved?

I imagine you could do it yourself. I worked for a large retailer and not an architect but was a designer, I can draw and know how to specify drawings. So no you don’t need to be one, but you need to submit copies of a plan, which are detailed up, wall thickness, material build up, insulation, power lighting etc. also need to ensure you are building regs and fire regs compliant. If you are comfortable that you are and can draw it up then no you won’t need one

I would think you can . Have a look on your local authority's website for building control and look at other submissions .
You should be able to see what other people have done .I know on our authority's there are drawings and annotated photos put in with applications.

It would be building notice you would need, no drawings needed. You just need to contact building control and pay the fee, form is pretty straight forward.
