WWYD job offer

A few months ago i was put through consultation with work.
Ended up keeping my job with my requested hours.
But while going through the process, i naturally started looking at other vacancies in my area.
Found & was offered a job that seems very similar to what i do, but less hours, so around £4500 less per year
I declined the offer.

A few weeks ago after a really shitty time in my original job i cast feelers out to other position, turns out it was still avaliable & reapplied & been re offered it.
Thing is im really torn

Things are calmer (or about as calm as will be in my current role, it is a very very stressful job)
Im terrified of starting a new job, im worried i wont even make it through a probation period. I have a baby who is often ill & a teen with complex mental health needs so am often with her.
My current place, despite its faults have been amazing with me in these instances.

Im scared of finacial loss.
In an ideal world, having more time with family will always trump everything but..we will have exactly same amount of bills to pay.
so it will just be a straight finacial loss.

My partner hates my current role is just desperate for me to leave, we will be just over earnings to qualify for any support from UC.

The only plus i see in new postion is no weekends so we will have family time.
(Partner works away so only time i have with him is weekends) i currently work on Saturdays to help with nursery costs

Wwyd would you stay in current, fairly secure role or take risk & pay cut for new.

If you're currently working Saturdays to help with nursery costs, won't you have to keep that up if you were to take a pay cut?

Is there any chance of negotiating anything more on the salary? They clearly want you, so you could be in a strong position there.

Have you done the sums? £4500 gross is £375 a month, but obviously it will be different with tax etc. If you're on say £30k currently, it's going to be far more of a hit than if you're on £60K.

How is the rest of the package? Pension, bonus, annual leave, any private health cover etc?

How about things like commute? Travel costs can add up.

Fewer hours and getting your weekend back is not to be sniffed at.

I recently started a job on £20K less than my previous one - it is following redundancy, so it's better than the £0 I was on for the months in between. But it's doing a lot for my confidence, showing me what I know, and how toxic the previous place was, whuch I had become inured to. Moving on really isn't all bad.

@OMGsamesame
Thats where ££ loss comes in.
At moment i work 4 days pw inc Sat
New job will be 3 days.
Baby will be in nursery for exactly same amount of time & days.
So nursery bill exactly the same.

There are 2 benefits with new job.

Less cahotic client base so less stressful.workload & no weekends means more family time

Have you done the sums? Can you afford the pay cut? What will you have to stop?

Thats such a positve outcome for you 🙂
Such a massive drop in pay for you though!

No negotiation on pay, its basically slightly over min wage. Which is slightly less than im on at moment
Your right, to get family time & been able to leave job at the door is so important, i am just really worried about that drop in pay.
We just manage week to week now ..its scary us taking a step back.
