Summer holiday activities for 11 and 13 year old

6 weeks to fill! 2 sons - 11 and 13. We are away on holiday for a week. Other than that we would often see friends, but most are away when we are available so it doesn't work too well this year. They have done some holiday camps in the past but not so keen now. I work part time and have an extra few weeks booked off with them, so I am here to ferry them around a bit. I am trying to make a list of activities. So far I have cinema, bowling, trip to a theme park, fruit picking, baking at home. What else could I add? They'll have plenty of down time, but they are glued to their screens if we are at home, so I do want to plan some things in.

get a dog! best thing for getting teens out

Tentative suggestions as mine not as old:
Excursions:
climbing wall
laser tag
mini golf
go ape
season pass to local pool if you have a lido or similar nearby
The Hundred if you like watching cricket

Skills development:
learn to cook simple meals
touch typing course - best thing I ever did as a teen for productivity subsequently
tennis course - or other sports course according to their interests
life saving course at local pool

Oh and there are residential camps for teens called PGL that my contemporaries have good memories of from their teenage years

Get them to walk an elderly neighbours dog then, also other helpful things.

Are you near a beach? Go litter picking

If you can afford it, offer to give them £30 and their task is to find a way of growing it. Could be anything, but ideas could include finding bargains and reselling for more on eBay, or making something they sell to friends. It’s actually really hard so should keep them busy for a while.

Some chores at home:
helping to declutter the loft, garage, garden shed
going through book shelves and sorting out what they are not interest in anymore
Valeting the car

DD does get some extra money or a trip to the book store for that though.

If they love reading - a research project? DD did one year the history of chocolate, involving serious tasting sessions :-), it gave her something to do, she learnt quite a lot of useful tricks how to research she then used at school.

Accepting that they will spend time on electronics and TV.
