Parent worrying about my future

My mum runs and owns her own company. My DB works for her a few days a week. She is past retirement age. She has no plans to retire right now, but she will be whittling down the company, rather than selling it off. She says it is down to my dad (who is a knob, and she doesn't want to spend time at home with him).

I am on UC (unable to work), and my DB (along with some work with our mum) is crippled with anxiety but has his own YT channel that he pays the rent with, but without the income from the work with mum, he will be fucked.

I have now just realised that maybe my mum is holding off retiring because she is worrying about both me and my brother. She is already past retirement age.

I feel awful. I feel like I am preventing her retiring.

Is there anyone else out there in a similar situation?

I remember hearing my mum on the phone, many years ago saying to my grandmother that she was worried about what I would do when i left school, I was and still am a bit of a dreamer. This was a challenge for me and I think we should all be challenged and challenge ourselves. At the time I did not know what I would do or what I wanted to do. But on hearing my mum’s concerns I went out and got a job for the summer that led to a career.

I have always struggled with the whole work thing but I did it. I later had a career change which was also long and productive, I am now retired (early).

My mum is now getting on in age and needs me to do many things for her although she still holds on some of her independence as your mum seems to be doing.

Eventually your mum will have to retire, what will you and your brother do?
