Tell me all the amazing things that happened once you gave up alcohol!

I need to go dry for a bit, around 6 months for medical reasons (not alcohol related!) and need some extra inspiration for when times get tough. Not only is there the football tonight, but I have two weddings and also a holiday to maintain it through all of which usually involve a few drinks.

I've read plenty of information online, but it's always nice to read things from a personal angle too.

So, please tell me your stories about being alcohol free and how AMAZING it was so I can dip in whenever I get the urge to drink.

Thank you ever so much!

Booze was my main sugar intake as don't have a sweet tooth or eat any processed ready made food. I lost over a stone in 5 months and best of all, no more menopausal night sweats. If I go to the pub I have alcohol free Gin, IPA or Guinness, don't feel like I'm missing out one bit. I will still have a glass of wine of for a special occasion, but I was drinking every night at home out of habit. so it had to stop.

Mine is very much habit too - started in covid and has gone on since then. It also doesn't feel that 'bad' as it's not large amounts at once. It's kind of a relief having a solid reason to cut it out for a bit now really as it'll give me the kick up the arse I need.

I was like most young women a binge drinker. But I'd go through periods where I couldn't face it.

Eventually I just couldn't face another hungover day, poor sleep and feeling sick or being sick any longer. I had started to cry with hangovers. My skin was much better and I had more money. I've noticed that older drinkers really look it. I still have the very occasional glass of wine with dinner.

I think that once you stop and things improve you will be fine.

This is all fantastic. I have since dipped into the alcohol support threads but, while I need to stop for a bit, it's not due to excessive drinking / possible alcoholism so didn't seem quite right.

I feel great today after the match too - which is a very pleasant change all things considering!

Remember to treat yourself with kindness regularly (e.g.buy a nice plant for your home / garden or join a craft group etc). The alcohol desire will become less and less important.
