Just this really....hospital say cant have tablets due to other meds family member is on so much be via a drip at hospital.

Way too poorly to go into hospital also 2 other family members have covid too,

NHS site says can be administered at hospital or health centre.

Anyone else come across this and what did you do?

How are they too poorly to be hospitalised?

They need to go in. I hate hospitals and would do whatever I can to not be in one, but it's really unusual to find a doctor that will administer any drip, let alone Covid medication for someone acutely unwell.

Are they too unwell to go to hospital because they are end of life/ Palliative? In which case the drip isn't needed.

Otherwise if they are that ill and have a chance of getting better, they need to go to hospital.

I had mine in a community hospital. DH had covid too but he drove me. I felt dreadful and vomited throughout the journey. It was worth it to get the meds I needed.

I think you may need to call an ambulance, so that your vulnerable relative will be monitored by paramedics in an ambulance while waiting for a transfer into the correct part of A&E, rather than being in a public waiting room / falling off chair in busy corridor / on trolley in busy corridor / etc.

This is not the worst time of day to seek an emergency service, if they are really very unwell.

Call a taxi and get them to a&e.

Ambulance?

Hospital is the correct place for very poorly people.

They might be too poorly to get there by normal means but in general that's where they need to be (there are exceptions)

CornishTeaTime · 10/07/2024 13:33

Right plan is to get the family member to hospital - hosp doctor said no way they can have tablet form but also imperative needs to be in hospital incase of a reaction etc. Dr has been brilliant and they will be seen immediately no waiting around etc. just waiting on a time to go

Got to drive them there, ambulance wait if currently 4-5 hours even in these circumstances. So will wrap them up and carry them in
