If you have a family WhatsApp with your dp,, children and their partners how do you end messages? I was talking about this to a RL friend (my god, my life's exciting!) and she says she just puts Mum. I put K/M ( for Kate and Mum. What do you do?

I just end messages with a kiss and maybe an emoji x 🤷🏻‍♀️

Haha you don't need to sign your messages on WhatsApp. I didn't even know that was a thing

CelesteCunningham · 10/07/2024 08:30

Never sign a WhatsApp unless it's to someone who might not know my name (I'm thinking of sending out party invitations in the class WhatsApp or messaging another mum about a playdate). My family know who I am!

AnneButNotHathaway · 10/07/2024 08:39

But WhatsApp shows names at the top of each message? Sign offs would look like zero computer literacy and be super weird.
I end my texts with either a period or an emoji, depending on the context.

PIL sign off with Mum/Dad which is daft enough, but I'm glad it's assumed I know the message isn't from my own parents so they don't need to put from Mum/Maeve and Dad/Dave 🤣

Although I do remember a time where BIL was away and his wife wrote an anniversary card to them and addressed it to Maeve and Dave rather than Mum and Dad and PIL thought it was a funny thing to do and teased her about it for ages.

Please note, my PIL aren't called Maeve and Dave!

Why do you even sign your name?

Yes, there's no need. I can see who a message is from, no signature needed.

Older generations and younger use WhatsApp very differently.
Older will put long rambling messages.
If you're old enough you'll remember when phones first came out and text messages were limited to a number of characters. Lots loved to write long texts after that had gone!
Others remembered we had to pay 10p per text. So short sharp and to the point. One message only.
Younger generation will send 10 short messages for one point but not send a long one.

But no one needs to sign off in a WhatsApp!

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 10/07/2024 09:02

I've never known anyone sign off on WhatsApp, so I doubt you're going to get any useful tips. Each group member's name is on their message, why would it be useful to complicate things using dual sign offs depending on if you're related by blood or not? 🙃

EasterlyDirections · 10/07/2024 09:06

Same here, no one signs off whatsapps ever unless it is a new person who might not have your name in their contacts

Maddy70 · 10/07/2024 09:13

Why are uou ending with anything? They know who it is. They can see your name ;)

My dad always used to end his texts with dad always made me giggle

sentfrmmyiphone · 10/07/2024 13:39

Never sign off... normally add a kiss or emoji depending on the conversation... my name is in the group... they know it's from me
