On holiday and have come down with a stinking cold - any tips on getting rid of it?

This is the second holiday in a row (last year and now this year) that this has happened. Last year I picked it up from work just before I went, this time I reckon I caught it on the plane as we’ve been here a couple of days. I know it’s a first world problem but FFS I feel like crap. Any top tips on feeling better quickly? Thanks.

A hot whiskey with honey and fresh lemon has always helped my colds but I appreciate you may not have the ingredients to hand! Being sick on hoLiDAR sucks, hope you feel better soon.

Sorry about the random capitals.

I take regular paracetamol and ibuprofen together and, for me, makes it more bearable although not a cure.
Just drink loads of water if somewhere hot or loads of hot drinks if in uk.

It’s just one of those things. Always a risk for infection getting on a plane. We got covid on a recent flight but luckily I have mild symptoms now.

I will be rattling with pills to try keeping my symptoms at bay! Luckily have brought paracetamol and ibuprofen with me.
Yes sadly lacking any of the ingredients for the drink but actually don’t drink alcohol so maybe just the honey and lemon would have to do if I can get some.
I do have teenagers on holiday with me though and a snoring-happily-next-to-me while I lie in sinus-pain misery so thinking I might just have to take up drinking anyway…

A mask next time? You e got a virus it will take its course now.

No tips, just sympathies. I pick up something from the plane about 50% of the time. And once took something with me from work to a UK-based trip - that one was quite alright though. We had a beautiful cottage and the accomodation was for once really comfortable, and it was just a great place to be ill. For all the others, I hate it so much and just take loads of cold meds.

The only time I didn't pick up a bug on a plane is when I cleaned the whole seat area and tray with wipes and wiped my hands before eatinng or drinking anything on outward and return flight. Such a faff i gave up flying.

It's really common to pick something up when you go on holiday and your stress levels drop, if you live with high adrenaline. It used to happen to me a lot when I had quite a stressful job. I'd be fine at work, and then poorly days into the holiday. I always thought I'd just picked something up at the airport/on the plane.

Lowered by stress levels in my daily life and it's never happened since.

If it's first day try Vicks First Defence, might catch it. If it's too far gone, I try and stick to natural stuff- get a Sterimar nasal spray can, these are great for clearing your sinuses.
Gargle with salt for a sore throat.
Then just olbas oil, paracetamol, and hot lemon/honey as often as possible.

A symptom of relaxing after powering on with high stress lives.

People blame the plane yet somehow use trains and buses day in day out and work in confined spaces without picking anything up.

Lemsip and a sinus spray or Vicks and gelato

Also , echinacea and vitamin C seems to help minimise symptoms for me.

The trouble is, it’s airborne so you’ll just breathe it in.
I’d like to give up flying but I have too many places I want to visit and it’s quicker and cheaper than train or car.
