How do I change my name with HMRC if I can't access Government Gateway?!

I'm trying to sign in to my Government Gateway account, but my only forms of ID are in my new name, so I'm unable to access my account.

HMRC advise logging in to you account or downloading the app to change your name, but both of these require ID verification in the first instance, so stuck in a bit of a catch 22.

I've called HMRC multiple times endeavouring to resolve this but keep getting shunted from pillar to post - surely it shouldn't be quite this complicated?!

If anyone knows a surefire way to get this sorted I'd be massively grateful.

I am in the same position trying to login so I can confirm my DC is staying on to sixth form to continue getting child benefit. I used my account a few years ago but it does not accept my passport now and cannot confirm my identity. I do not know why. I wasted a lot of time going through the process of inputting data, downloading an app, changing settings on my phone, taking photos and scans etc.
The digital assistant just keeps repeating the list of ID you can confirm your ID with and does not answer questions I ask it so is completely useless. The phone number says it would be at least a 30 minute wait.
I am considering using the contact details for those needing extra support for disability. I do have physical health problems, including poor sight.
Why on earth can the Government not make their services user friendly.
