Do you still test for covid?

Had bad cold symptoms this week so did a covid test and it was positive. Was due to go to a family party last night but did not go due to testing positive. I tested positive yesterday. There would be a mix of people there of all ages. Nobody very vulnerable. My family have made me feel a bit silly saying nobody tests anymore and I should have gone. Am I being a bit silly to test? I stayed away for their benefit ( although I wasn't crazy disappointed to miss it!!).

You have the luxury of being able to wfh. Not everyone does and not everyone can afford to take time off. It's lazy to just say it's selfish when there's a cost of living crisis.

It’s lazy and also very naive. I don’t test but had to go to a 3 day conference while feeling horrendous last year. If I hadn’t gone I wouldn’t have been paid and the contract for future work would have been reassigned. I have zero regrets. Afraid that cautiousness and the moral high ground won’t pay my bills.

Yes. My mum has acute myeloid leukaemia and a platelet count of 4 - so yes. (Normal values are 100-400)...

We test before we see her.

What a weird take to say you’re being silly. You’re being careful and responsible and respectful of others.
If I felt like I did when I got Covid before I would definitely test, think we have some left and I might even buy more. I want to know what I’m ill with if I’m ill!

Selfish?

Jeez. Doesn't seem like 5 minutes ago, everyone was out clapping for us carers.

We're so short staffed nowadays, we've been instructed not to test.
We don't get sick pay, and we can't work from home.

Who looks after the elderly generation? Supports people with disabilities?
Works alongside folk with extreme mental health issues?
At the last count, there were 180,000 vacancies in the care sector.
Care to lend a hand? Or are you just going to cast aspersions from your home office?

We were there, working right through the pandemic.

I got floored with Covid in Jan 2021, and I'm still paying off my debts from when I needed to take 9 days off work. Because my bills don't pay themselves.

I HATED the Thursday night round of applause then, and I hate it even more now.

Classist Britain at its very worst.
