What can I do to my hall. Pics

I wanted to do something a bit wacky and bright.

But I'm thinking would it make it feel closed in?
And would I end up taking it further ie . End up going up the stairs then the landing. Then the next set of stairs etc

Should I just keep it neutral?

Maybe I should just make the loo wacky or something 🤔

Panel the bottom half and paint it a fun darker colour in green/navy/purple etc and then add some bright art to the top of the wall.

I need more pictures of the little dog before I can make any suggestions…

A cute shelf above the radiator, maybe a nice wallpaper on the triangular stairs bit and some plants?

And a cool doormat.

And, yes. Art.

But stuff you like, not generic art prints from B&Q, art that speaks to you, even if it’s weird.

Find some premade art or blank canvases and have a fun abstract art session. If you find done very narrow tall ones you can put them up on all the white spaces of the walls. Will find some example images for you.

What colours do you like? Don't forget ceilings don't need to be white!

Cuppapuppa · 07/07/2024 14:35

Panelling wouldn’t suit

Cerialkiller · 07/07/2024 14:35

Here. Lots of you tube videos of how to do the art. It's easy and you can just choose the colours you love.

I have paneling in my bedroom . So was not sure about doing the hall . Did not want a house of panels but maybe it would be ok 🤔. I might mess the cutting up .. i will have a think

I'd feel an urge to play tennis with that colour scheme

I was thinking , reds, yellow, oranges, green . Bright colours. I will definitely leave the ceiling white though.

I have lots of paint left from doing the kids bedroom which are the above colors

If you don't have windows in the hall, and it's quite dark, then you could embrace dark and paint it charcoal. I used my long hall as a gallery and have family photos and homemade art up. I change the art every so often. You could get your children to paint pictures for some of it too. An umbrella stand or plant at the glass next to the door.

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 07/07/2024 14:44

Can you afford a decorator? Painting stairs is a real pain. Wallpaper in red, orange and yellow would be nice

Oh no definitely nothing dark. That would really depress me.

My was white and I kept thinking colour would make it darker. I (by mistake!) put a darker green on than intended but I love it now against the white ceiling, bannister and skirting.
It's not dark and it really lifts the whole area.

Do it!

Put a dado rail in at an appropriate height and just paint to there?

Maybe . Might be an idea

I'd put a funky wallpaper just on the radiator wall. Then lots of pictures going up the stairs. Shelf above radiator for a nice bowl and ornament or diffuser or vase.

InfoSecInTheCity · 07/07/2024 15:14

Bright colours and bold patterns don't make the space look smaller. I love bold wallpapers and have used them in our downstairs toilet and bathroom, both of which are very small rooms.

I'd paper the radiator wall and the stairs wall (the triangular bit directly opposite the radiator) then use a coordinating colour picked out from the paper for the other walls.

DeerOhDear · 07/07/2024 16:00

Oh just break up the wall with a dado of some sort? Paint below and above the keep white or paper below. Definitely Mirrors and picks up
