Do people in social housing get burgled?

I mean as in a properly burglary not someone you know who has visited and nicked something. I am in social housing and I want to know the likelihood of being burgled. The few houses with good gardens around here have flood lights, security cameras and ring door bells. I know there are people on drugs in the area, although it’s not the majority. I get a lot of amazon and eBay packages as I am doing up my house (DIY) and am in the process of doing up my garden. I have severe anxiety about it after being warned by a neighbour that some people might just come drunk into my garden if I don’t lock it

@poshsnobtwit What are the other “stereotypical markers?” I’m intrigued

What a stupid question

Or, are you insinuating that council houses = Poor and got nothing?! so not worth burgeling?
Wow

Is this to mean 'Do they steal from their own?' Because I think this is nonsense and burglars don't discriminate.

Though from my time, many years ago now, in volunteering, I learned that the one thing which does put them off is a dog.

Why the assumption that all burglars live in SH?? That’s pretty narrow minded

Not far off the truth though 😂

Yes OP, we get burgled the same as everywhere else. The difference maybe being that, if they’ve come off our estate rather than a different area, we’re more likely to find out who did it because everyone knows everyone and as most of us are long term tenants, we all know exactly who the thieving fuckers are.

Honestly, a dog is the best defence you can get. But if you don’t want a dog, make sure you get some insurance. Get a ring doorbell. Don’t go out without locking your windows and your chub lock, if you’ve got one. If you’ve got anything really precious and/or sentimental that could never be replaced, find a better hiding place for it than your jewellery box. I mean a proper hiding place, not in your cutlery drawer. If you’ve got anything valuable, take a million photos of it, including you wearing it, and keep receipts/packaging, because as soon as they realise you’re in SH, the first thought of the police/insurance company will be that you’re trying your luck. Get your packages delivered to one of those yellow locker boxes they have all over the place, or to a local shop, or to work, or a relative or friend who’ll be in to accept it. Keep your gates bolted (at waist height - won’t deter a burglar in the slightest but might give a drunk on the wander a moments aggravation if they can’t reach their arm over) If any drunks wander into your garden and you don’t feel confident opening your top window and dealing with them yourself (and you do need a touch of the fishwife about you for this) just stay indoors; they’ll wander off again. And if they don’t, ask your neighbour what she does. It might not be a ‘call the police’ type of place. Essentially, it’s all common sense stuff that is best practice and which anyone who is security minded will be doing anyway. You’re not more likely to get burgled just because you’re there.

Have you not lived in SH before? You’ll be fine 🙂

Yeah there is an invisible sign that only burglar's can see that says 'don't pick this one'

Are you really genuinely asking, why?

The ones that burglaries me twice must have missed the sign.

User name checks out

😂 Why did you feel the need to check? Didn’t you believe her? Bit of a weird thing to do outside of Reddit.

Although this I imagine if there was a burglary it would be an inside job and the perpetrator would be dealt with internally, so if your area is like mine, you are probably at much less risk is quite funny.
