I've been asked too go too a commitments review. Then it changed to a work search review. Our circumstances haven't changed. Can anyone help ?.

It is normal for it to be reviewed at times, has absolutely nothing changed? Do you have children, if so have they hit an age at which your work requirements would change? Have either of you recently got a new job/changed job?

Once your dc reach 3 or 4 I think your expectation to work is different. Is it that. How old are dc

mitogoshi · 06/07/2024 18:26

Just because circumstances haven't changed, it doesn't mean that they shouldn't explore with you ways you could reduce your reliance upon benefits eg getting a job/better paid job

My kids are 8 and 10. My Husband recently got a new job. Two payments got put into the one assessment because of the bank holiday which caused no wages too go in too the last assessment.

Could be that
Or is his new job enough to cover the threshold for you not to work.

Although I thought I'd read both claimants were going to be expected to work

Do you work OP? I thought if DC were above school age they expect both of a couple to work.

My husband had his commitment review over the phone last Friday the man on the phone turned round too him and said so how's the work search going my husband said I've got a job. Then he said he told 3 people over the phone about what happened with the bank holidays the the two payments got put into one assessment.

I went on Friday got given a DLA Form too fill in as we're waiting for my Son's Assement and I have too find a Job for 2 hours a day. But I was told that when my son had his assessment and got his Autism referral I wouldn't have too work.

Why don’t you want to work!

Vettrianofan · 14/07/2024 19:35

Have you applied for Carer's Allowance?

Gembo41 · 15/07/2024 06:56

No I haven't.

I do want too work but I want too be the one who look's after my kid's in the holiday as I'm qualified as a Nursery Nurse and that's why I became a stay at home mum in the first place. I was able too get a place for my daughter at the nursery after I had the 6 month maternity leave then was pregnant with my son the next year I worked out my wages would have been all gone so I was basically working for nothing if I went back too work after having my son. So that's why I stopped working.

Yeah but you would have got up to 85% back of the childcare from UC.

Can you do part time hours while your kids are at school? Sounds like that would be a reasonable option?

Sprogonthetyne · 15/07/2024 07:37

So, you have a (probably) autistic 8yo, who might not manage with childcare as well as other children, and needs you at home?

He's still waiting on assesment, and don't have any evidence to show you are providing care to a disabled child, but are still needed all the same. Their advice to apply for DLA was right, it's based on need not diagnosis, so you shouldn't need to wait on his assessment.

If he's awarded either middle or higher rate care, you can be classed as his carer. You can apply for Carers allowance, but the money you get from CA is deducted from your uc pound for pound, so might not be worth doing. What is worth doing is getting disabled child element and Carers element added to your universal credit award. Once you are getting the Carers element, they will remove your work commitments.
