Easiest and cheapest way to listen to music on demand

I feel like I am way behind on this! What is the best way to listen to songs that I want, when I want? I don't want to purchase albums. If I hear a song or two on the radio that I like, I want to be able to listen to them multiple times a day for several weeks and then move on to something else. I listen either via my Alexa or on my mobile phone. I am an Amazon Prime member, but nowadays it seems as though you have to pay an additional fee (£8.99 a month or something) to access the services, bar being able to request a couple of songs at a time on Alexa before you have no option but to listen to "similar" songs and not request any more. I think Spotify is also a paid service to use it as I want. So is paying £8.99 for Prime Music the best I can do???

I don't want to hijack your thread @SplendidPendips but if any Spotify fans ( paid for ) can tell me how to rearrange the albums , and then the songs on the albums I have created I'd be very grateful

I've not paid for music since I was about 12. Just download from YouTube onto an ipod or my phone.

YouTube premium. Sign up via a VPN so it's cheap as chips. Used a VPN and set my country in Argentina and pay around one pound per month. Once you are signed up you don't have to continue to use the VPN and get ad free music on demand via YouTube music.

Thanks all. I think one of the issues is that everyone offering this service has changed their offering significantly recently. E.g. I know you can get Spotify for free BUT not only do you have to listen to ads now you also can't play more 5 selected songs from your playlist at one 'sitting'. It stops you from skipping songs etc at that point. Unlimited music used to be included with Prime membership but now that's got restrictions too.

I've not heard of the YouTube Music app so will check that out.

I don't have anyone to share with - my kids aren't in to music and my husband listens to old music that he's downloaded from cds or podcasts that are free via the podcast app.

Just seems to annoying to pay £12 a month when I only listen to a fee songs a day when I'm.making dinner - I just want to choose which ones they are and play them on repeat if I want to etc!

You can do this on YouTube for free, you can play a video 10x in a row if you want to. You will get adverts every 2-3 songs but you can often skip after 5 seconds and even if you have to watch a full advert it’ll be under 30 seconds long. I just play the videos either through the YouTube app on my TV or the YouTube app on my phone, if you’re only listening to a handful of songs a day this is probably a better option than paying for something.

I've just been able to get a month free Prime Unlimited Music as a trial. This is despite the fact I had already trialled the service just over a year ago. So it's worth trying for anyone else reading this thread and unsure what to do. Just make sure to unsubscribe at the end of the month. I plan to monitor how much i actually use it in order to work out if it's worth continuing with. They've also introduced an annual plan, so you can pay £9.99 month or £99 for the year. The £99 a year seems more palatable at least (works out at £8.25 a month).

I'll try the YouTube app/download option.

I love spotify! It has podcasts as well, and a monthly allowance of fifteen free hours of audiobook.

I didn’t know this! Thank you!

Does anyone know, can you listen to music from the YouTube app via Alexa? Or does it have to be via your phone/TV only?

Spotify. You can still play on Alexa device etc. using Spotify.

You can watch YouTube videos on an Alexa show but I don’t know if you can use it on an Alexa without a screen.

We use YouTube Music because you get your albums in the right order.

We have a subscription to the Times and get Spotify free as part of the deal. Do you know anyone who would share the cost of Apple Music with you? 6 people can be on one subscription.

I have a subscription to the Times. I wasn't aware of this. How do I access it?

Parkmybentley · 07/07/2024 06:58

I have YouTube premium. It includes the YouTube music app which is really good and I find the algorithm for discovering new music is much better than Spotify.

fieldsofbutterflies · 07/07/2024 07:53

Spotify Premium - have had it for years and no other service even comes close IMO.

lapochette · 07/07/2024 08:31

I've just started a 3 month free trial o Apple Music and then had an offer from Amazon for a 3 month free trial too! Not bought any new apple products for a few years so not sure why this offer came through

I got my son Youtube Premium for £3.33 a month, courtesy of Gamsgo.com, Google it. You also get Youtube Music which is their version of Spotify so it's well worth it for the price.

It’s been great as they just added his existing account to a family plan so you don't lose your playlists or data.

They've emailed me discount code GIVEME5 for 5% if anyone wants to use it.
