Wow the world of looking for a job has changed. I just don’t know where to start.

l have a cv but think l maybe need to get it updated. I am looking on Reed/monster and indeed but nothing is jumping out at me.

l suppose l need to figure out what kind of job it is l want to do first. I am wanting to change my career from retail to a more admin role/working from home. I know it means starting from the bottom again but l have over 20 years of work left in me, so l suppose the money will always come back to me. Is there such a thing as career counsellors for people my age?

Any helpful tips or advice would be appreciated, l think l need to treat looking for a job like a job. Thanks

Hi op! I was in the position of looking for a job 18 months ago at the age of 47. I was made redundant from the civil service after 20 years so was quite anxious and feeling very out of touch to say the least. I had 2 career coach sessions (organised by my ex employer) which helped in terms of boosting my confidence although not necessarily practically. The best thing for me personally was creating a CV on a site called Snapdragon (sure there's lots of similar ones out there) - it helped structure it and draw out strengths etc - thoroughly recommend it. Made creating a CV so easy and I usually loathe that sort of thing. I then signed up to Indeed and had a few interviews and that led to a temp post within a public sector admin role (what I wanted) and been there ever since.
Hope some of this is useful- you can do it! Good luck.

Yes, there are certainly adult careers coaches.

I'm in a similar position and I resisted for a while but I'm now getting JSA which in itself has unlocked CV and interviewing advice. I was somewhat sceptical about the standard of advice and input I would get, but so far it's been excellent.
