Anyone thinking of joining Conservative Party for £25 to keep the hard right out?

For sure if Suella Braverman or similar are elected as Conservative Party leader they will work with or maybe merge with Reform (she has said so).

This would leave a very large hard right party in opposition and ready for the next general election.

If you’ve been a £25 party member for 3 months at the closing date of party leadership election you get to vote.
Will anyone consider doing this to try to keep the far/hard right out of British politics for as long as possible?

No. Not for one moment. I have better things to do with my money.

I would rather go to the cashpoint, withdraw the money and then drop it into the nearest drain than give money to the Conservative party.

You can’t vote until you’ve been a member for long enough. It’s not like the Labour Party. They’ll have a new leader before you can vote - and you’ll just have waster £25

😂😂😂

You have got to be bloody joking!

Hello! <your friendly local drain>

I would set £25 on fire before I ever gave it to the blue brigade.

I was heavily involved in student politics in 1997 and did consider joining the Conservatives at that point with the aim to become an MP by the time they sorted themselves out and moved back to the centre. However I do not and did not have strong tribal loyalty to any party (I'm very centrist) and couldn't quite face spending time with the true blue believers and decided I'd have a nicer life as a scientist. I'm probably too old to do that now but can understand your sentiment.

No way.

Though I admit when the Tories were desperately struggling to find candidates, I wondered how far I could get in the selection process, but thought as I hate the Tories, I'd be found out as someone would blag.

Floatingandundecided · 06/07/2024 11:46

Didn't people do this to get Corbyn in as Labour leader? It didn't work for them!

tsmainsqueeze · 06/07/2024 11:50

No way !!!

Erm, no. Grow up. You can't stamp out different opinions, and nor should you try to.
