I've been to the Isle of Wight and Skomer island. Fab places and seeing the puffins on skomer has been one of our favourite trips ever.
Can anyone recommend any others?

Not in UK but the Blasket Islands in Ireland are stunning.

Also not in the UK but the Isle of Man is wonderful. It's in the Irish Sea.

Lundy in the Bristol Channel - you can stay in some really unusual buildings including a lighthouse!

Shetland!

Mull
Islay
Jura
Staffa
Tiree
Gigha
Barra
Are all gorgeous and special and individual.

I'd love to visit Orkney, Shetland, the Faroe Islands and St Kilda.

I also loved Skomer. Skye was really good, we went out of the main season so not crowded and magnificent scenery and boat trips. Loved the Fairy pools and Neist point and wildlife boat trips to Canna. Quite pricey in places. Castle was also good and had a boat trip with seals.

Enjoyed Lundy as well, did a swim with seals and island visit boat trip which was great - you can also stay on the island.

Isles of Scilly are magical - took the helicopter to Tresco which has a beautiful botanical gardens with red squirrels and visited the other islands. Back by small place from St Marys. Wildlife boat trips including dolphins.

Also saw puffins by the Farne islands and went on one of the islands, preferred Skomer but was still good.

Sark & Herm are magical. No cars on either, not even bikes on Herm. It can be expensive to stay on either unless you're into camping, but staying in Guernsey and visiting for the day is easy. Guernsey is special too!

Lindesfarne.

I've just started reading a book based on the isle of scilly and I have to keep googling things. Sounds so tranquil

Orkney is so interesting. But a long trip.

Island hopping the Inner Hebrides is amazing. Ferries sadly not very reliable these days.

Arran and Skye somewhat easier to access (Arran not too far from motorway network to ferry and Skye is but has a bridge) and are popular with good reason, but avoid during school holidays.

FannyCradocksDoughnut · 06/07/2024 06:04

Anglesey is amazing.

Come to Arran, two distilleries. What more could you need.

skilpadde · 06/07/2024 08:31

Go for a weekend trip to Mull. Take the quicker Lochaline to Fishnish ferry, rather than the ferry from Oban. Even better if you fit in lunch at the Whitehouse restaurant in Lochaline before you get on the ferry.

Potter around Tobermory (aka Balamory). Buy soap and eat ice cream. Visit the distillery. Either go to a nice fish restaurant or eat fish and chips on the pier.

Take a boat trip that goes to Staffa, to see Fingal's Cave, which then goes to Lunga, to see thousands of puffins!

On another day, take the (4-minute) ferry over to Iona. Visit Iona Abbey. Walk or cycle to one of the white beaches in the north to see birds and the island Bac Mòr, that's nicknamed the Dutchman's cap due to its shape.

Arran - Scotland in miniature, as the Tourist Board calls it, with reason. Two distilleries, as mentioned above. Also a tiny little gin place with a gorgeous garden to sit in and look out over Brodick Bay if you get good weather. Brodick Castle. The ruins of Lochranza Castle. Goatfell, if you feel like a strenuous climb. Some lovely beaches. Waterfalls - the easiest one to get to is Glenashdale Falls in Whiting Bay, one of my favourite walks - I start from the Coffee Pot because I like ending the walk with the long scenic descent into the village with fabulous sea views. The standing stones on Machrie Moor. Great food. Arran beer. Isle of Arran ice cream and island-made cheese. James's chocolate shop. Miniature golf at Arran Active in Brodick. Lots of terrific walks if you like walking. Isle of Arran Museum is good, especially if you get a wet afternoon. The bus service is very good for the size of the island.

muddyford · 06/07/2024 14:04

Arran, Islay, Jura.
Tresco, one of the Scilly Isles, is in incredible.
Anglesey.

combinationpadlock · 06/07/2024 14:05

There are literally hundreds!

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 06/07/2024 14:06

I went to Orkney two years ago and that was amazing. Last year went to Anglesey, both are absolutely fantastic if you are into history. Beaches - not so much!

CassieMaddox · 06/07/2024 14:07

Farne Islands off the coast of Northumberland

Deathraystare · 06/07/2024 14:37

Canvey Island (!). Used to live there. Nothing much there. Not sure if the Goldmine is still there.

Kovus · 06/07/2024 21:35

For me, and I have done many, it has to be Avalon.
