Hello, we’ve had too much going on as a family are v v stressed. Worried so much about hol and heat with pale lonely teen that In a moment of anxiety booked Amsterdam which was insanely expensive and now it will be pouring all week.
Please please if anyone has any nice restaurants, cafes, museums anything at all they can recommend.Teen is into science and computers, hates art, hates museums, we are happy, I mean desperate, and can hop on a train for a day trip. what were we thinking?! Just so desperately wanted a nice break for teen and now think we’ve cocked up desperately.

@Amsterdammit why are you worrying so much?

AdaColeman · 11/07/2024 23:27

@Amsterdammit
How did you get on at the meal in darkness? Did the truculent teenager enjoy it? I do hope so! You'll have to tell us all about it when you've got a minute.

Amsterdammit · 12/07/2024 06:31

hello ada I was just coming on to say THANK YOU for the dark meal! Total success! He was so pleased it was something different and it gave us chance to giggle together, so a success from my pov too.
we hired bikes found a super lunch just behind the big swing place called Fine Sushi if anyone’s passing, cycled to Nemo, then around. madamlulu he really didn’t want to go to the red light district! ada we found Café Papeneiland, it was rammed, and the area round it was very nice to cycle, lovely looking shops, and calmer and cleaner than 9 streets and closer in.

jings I think we all desperately needed a holiday!
of course now I’ve learned with teen ..plan plan plan, tell them what they’re doing, and learn not to let the bored slightly pitying look fluster me. 🙄🙄🙄😁
Thank you everyone. Last day!

There’s loads of stuff to do in Amsterdam! No one goes to Amsterdam for the weather! I’ve been three times, and there’s loads of indoor activities. Nemo Science Museum, Body Worlds, Anne Frank House, the list is endless. There’s loads of great food places, loads of shops, it’s a wonderful city.

Negangirlxx · 12/07/2024 07:07

I forgot Ripley’s, Madam Taussauds, the Van Gogh Museum.

Plenty to do, and if you’re a chocolate fan, check out the Tony’s Chocolonely Chocolate Shop! ☺️

The Upside Down house is fun! There were loads of happy looking teens there when we went.

Book marking this thread because of the great suggestions - some of which I hadn’t heard of even though my teen dc are half Dutch and we visit NL a lot.

AdaColeman · 12/07/2024 08:28

@Amsterdammit Oh I'm so pleased that the dark meal was fun and a success for all.
If you've not found it yet, the floating flower market close to the centre on Singel is fun to walk through as it's filled with exotic flowers and plants. It's a slice of Amsterdam history with its links to maritime exploration of far flung tropical destinations.

Have a great LAST DAY!

Amsterdammit · 12/07/2024 09:40

Oh ada thanks! That sounds good. bluesoul and negangirl that does too.

our tranquil eco house is under a flight path🙄so loud plane very 8 minutes., mikes from anywhere, they strummed the grass at 7am and because DH is STILL ILL I need to trudge across a f*ing field fora F*ing
