Hello, my 6.5yr old really wants to stop wearing a nappy. We’ve been trying at night but she just doesn’t wake up and wees. I know it might take till 7yr old to produce hormone. But she really wants to stop and would like to support her. Just shelled out £100 on a bed wetting alarm and wanted to know what people’s experiences have been?

thank you!

Hi! Ahh that sounds pretty annoying. We didn’t once have a false alarm during the night but maybe a couple of times in the morning when my daughter was taking it out it went off, I remember thinking at the time nothing was wet for it to do that!
i always wrapped some loo roll several times around the device. She had two pairs of knickers on and the device slipped in between the two so it was well wrapped and also cushioned to sleep with. Then pyjama bottoms too.
Maybe try putting another barrier there incase it might be sweat? Hope you have a successful night with it soon, otherwise maybe get in touch with the customer support, they are usually really helpful

Thank you! Ok right, perhaps we will try loads more loo roll tonight. I also had an idea to put it in a slim sanitary towel, cut a little slit and slide it in (poor lad), some people put it in the pull-up but he’s so keen not to go back to those and I made a big thing of him not needing them now. My bad. So thank you! I’ll try the extra loo roll tonight and then try customer service if no good.

No I think you did the right thing moving away from the pull ups. We got stuck too where there was no going back to pull ups and looking back that was ok as they were just motivated to move on. Yeh try extra loo roll, I wrapped ours up several times covering the whole thing. Good luck! Do report back with how it went!

The most important detail here is that she wants to be dry. Motivation makes a difference.
At this age, many children who wet the bed are extremely deep sleepers. The issue is not effort or awareness during the day. It is that during deep sleep, the brain does not wake in response to bladder fullness.
An alarm is not magic. It is a conditioning tool. In the early phase, many children do not wake to it and parents need to actively wake and guide them. Over time, if used consistently and calmly, the brain begins to connect bladder sensation with waking.
Do not judge progress night by night. Look at patterns over several weeks. Avoid night lifting as a long-term solution, as it does not teach the child's brain to take control. With structure and patience, many deep sleepers improve significantly.
