You can drop your postal vote in the polling station

Just to remind everyone of this!

If you haven't posted your postal vote, you can physically take it – sealed – to your polling station and they will accept it.

Handing in postal votes at a polling station
UK Parliament elections
You can only hand in your own postal vote, and the postal votes of up to five other people, at a polling station or to your local council. When handing in postal votes, you will need to complete a form. You will need to include your name and address, how many postal votes you are handing in and why you are handing in those postal votes.
Campaigners can only hand in their own postal vote, and postal votes for up to five other people that are either close relatives, or someone they provide regular care for.

It does make this quite clear when you receive your postal vote.

No harm in the reminder though.

What’s the point of a postal vote if you can go to the polling station ?

What’s the point of a postal vote if you can go to the polling station ?

Some councils have been a bit shit at getting the postal votes out on time.

Redshoeblueshoe · 04/07/2024 18:06

You can also get someone else to drop it off.
Brenda - for me - I got a postal vote as my photo ID doesn't match with my name on the electoral roll.

What’s the point of a postal vote if you can go to the polling station ?

a) Because not everyone completes them in time to trust the post to get them there.
b) Because I was going to the polling station this year, so dh asked if I would take his too, save him making a special trip out to post it

NewName24 · 04/07/2024 18:08

Yes, it was weird having to fill in a form today to do this. Not had to do that before.

PerkingFaintly · 04/07/2024 18:12

I have a postal vote because of mobility difficulties, but when I've had someone reliable to take it in for me when they were going themselves, I've done that because:

a) more it's reliable then post and solves the problem of getting to a post box,

b) I get to vote on the day like everyone else, rather than have to make my mind up a week in advance.

I tried to do this once a few years ago and they didn’t accept it at the polling station as they didn’t know what to do. I ended up taking it back home and couldn’t use my vote that time. I hope people are more aware now.

Decafflatteplease · 04/07/2024 18:43

You can also drop them at an electoral register office

Sometimes circumstances change. I thought that I was going to be on holiday today and I'm not. I started a thread earlier today about the issues I had around my postal vote - it's not been a popular thread 🤣

There are loads of reasons why someone might request a postal vote and then circumstances change and they don't need it/forget to post it/want to be sure it's counted

The number of people who request one with the express intention of dropping it off will be miniscule

Thats pretty obvious isn't it?

Loads of reasons a postal vote might be easier! But its just a back up option in case you forget to post it in time, better than missing your chance to vote.

Rosemarypots · 04/07/2024 19:18

I've realised it's worth getting a postal vote even if I don't get around to actually posting it, because it can be dropped off at any polling station in the constituency. My local polling station is a two minute walk away, but the polling station that is allocated to my address is more like a twenty minute walk. So today I've dropped my postal vote at the polling station that's closest. Small win!

My son’s postal vote arrived last weekend when he was working away. My husband actually got a train to see him yesterday & take it to him where he filled it in & my husband handed it in today.
