What's the easiest holiday with young children?

DP and I are pretty burnt out and looking for the most relaxing break possible. We have DS1 (5) and DS2 (1). The youngest has a health condition that means we're staying in the UK and prefer to be within a few hours driving distance of paediatric intensive care units, which basically means within a few hours of major UK cities.

Our fantasy holiday would be a two bedroom apartment in a hotel that did excellent food and had a swimming pool to rival centre parcs. However, I don't think this actually exists (in the UK). In the absence of this I'm not sure what we should be looking for.

DS1's requirements are a pool, a good playground and daily ice cream. He once stayed in a hotel that had a breakfast buffet and has talked about it for years since.

DS2 seems to require being outside at all possible opportunities. He only naps while being walked in the pram, so somewhere with walking on the doorstep would be good.

DP and I would like to shut the door on them in the evening, and then eat fantastic food.

Has anyone been somewhere with young children that just suited everyone? We had a great time on the Isle of Wight when DS1 was younger, but that doesn't work from a hospital point of view (and we're now based in the North West, so quite a trek to get there). We're contemplating throwing our money at centre parcs just because it would make DS1 so happy, and then our lives are easier from that perspective, but I would really like to eat food that is cooked by someone good at cooking. I thought we had a very healthy budget of around £2000, but that doesn't seem to put interconnecting hotel rooms into consideration.

We love Butlin's. And despite what you might think it really does give me a break. Lots of the time holidays with kids just feels like parenting in a different location. But at Butlin's the kids are so entertained I just sit at the back and chill. Food included so no cooking or cleaning. Pool
Is fab. Everything is included and well within budget.

Have a look at Bluestone in Wales.

The one where you leave them with their grandparents.

I take it back, that was DP's first choice! I'm not ready to leave DS2 yet though, and admittedly he's such a bad sleeper his grandparents wouldn't have him!

Butlins? I know they don't have a great reputation but my friend went with 2 young DC recently and said honestly it's the best holiday they've had because it's so child friendly and safe.
We had a nice Haven holiday when our DC were little but might not suit you if you want a breakfast buffet!
I think cheap and cheerful uk beach holidays are the way to go with young DC, save your money to go abroad when they're older

Another vote for Haven and the like. Caravan holidays really are the easiest at that age. Some holiday parks have chalets as well.

There would have been one holiday park I could have highly recommended but they shut down during Covid, demolished all the lovely traditional chalets and stuffed a load of caravans in their place. It is a shadow of its form self now, sadly.

It was such a shame they changed it. Went for about 20 years hoped to take my granchildren there not now.

I've heard good things about Woolley Grange in Bradford on Avon in Wiltshire (which is close to Bristol Children's Hospital). It describes itself as a luxury family hotel. Children's playrooms, playground, children's entertainment, swimming pool, extensive grounds, restaurant, early children's meals, complimentary babysitting in the evening. Bradford on Avon is lovely and very close to Bath.

If you can get away with going when school is on, you’ll get a lot for your money with Center Parcs - can probably get a more luxurious lodge and meals out for under £2k. We have managed multiple term time breaks for under £600 all in when self catering (used to be under £400 pre Covid!)

Not been Butlins myself but I know they have options with nice hotel rooms, good pool and good outdoor activities

I wonder if we are talking about the same place?
