Paris trip ideas

Hi all, looking for tips really and hoping I am posting on the right thread.

We are heading to France a week before the Olympics, we will be out before the Olympics starts unfortunately, but I wondered if I could get some suggestions of nice places to visit around?

I was thinking to book accommodation near the Effiel tower but I understand that this on the edge of town so not too convenient for travelling to other places? I would like us to visit the Louvre too. We are only there for 3 nights but really want the kids to have a fun trip.

TIA

I'm not sure I would bother with the Louvre on a short trip. Instead, I would head for the Orangerie, especially the Monet rooms.

I took my DD13 to Paris last year and we had an amazing trip. We stayed in the Marais area which was lovely. I didn’t go to the Effiel tower but we paid to go up a nearby office and watch the sunset over it. Beautiful. We also did the catacombs and we visited https://www.atelier-lumieres.com/en
The rest of the time we shopped, drank coffee/milkshake and watched the world go by. It was a wonderful trip. Enjoy

The faff of the Eiffel Tower isn't worth the view. It's a good view but not that good.

Highly recommend getting a bateaux bus - we got a day pass and hopped on at the Eiffel Tower, you can get on and off where you like and go off exploring. It's quicker than the roads because of the diversions due to the olympics. The metro is also really good, you can get a 2 or 3 day pass/ travel card

If you do go up the Eiffel Tower buy advance tickets with a company to do an accompanied trip. We did and as soon as we got on the tower we trotted off. If you queue on the day you will be queuing for hours.

There are lots of good cafes and restaurants near the tower.

We've stayed close to the centre and slightly outside but the tubes and Ubers were affordable. If you go to Galleries Lafayette you can go onto the viewing deck for free to see the whole of Paris.

The catacombs are interesting but it's a slog climbing up. Again we booked in advance to save queuing.

We were there early May and even then there was major construction work going on in the central areas to make stadiums etc ready for the games. I imagine the week before you will find the city to be very different to normal, very busy and less easy to get around, book accommodation, restaurants etc.

if you can book accommodation near the Eiffel Tower it’s fine, not too far from everything else at all if you’re happy to walk around. You might have trouble actually getting to the tower though because of Olympic infrastructure right next to it.

it will be exciting but not the typical experience.

Thank you all so much for the tips! So helpful and I feel like I can get a plan sorted. I had completely forgotten about the Olympics when I promised the kids, but fingers crossed we will make it worthwhile.
