Election all-nighter - help me plan

Some friends and family are gathering to watch the election results together - Portillo moments here we come!

I’m trying to plan for food to power through - this will be 8-10 hours of watching results - my dinner will be a distant memory. Do I do it all on crisps and toast - no booze at the party - or plan a meal for 3am?

all thoughts welcome.

Oooh sounds like fun!

I'd say finger foods, lots of things you can take out of a packet and eat and minimal stuff that needs cooking.

You could get a few bits that need popping in the oven (eg. Pizza) and plan these for regular intervals if you think you'll have the energy / motivation.

Booze? Depends on the guests. If it were me, I wouldn't mind a few tipples to be on hand but I'd love just as much for tea / coffee / hot choc and fizzy drinks to be made available.

Enjoy!

Charcuterie board you can whip out at some point?

Coffee and cake every couple of hours to help with staying awake?

I can’t decide how I want to approach it:

  1. I could sleep 9-3 then get up for watching results, but then cracking open the red wine on waking at 3am feels… wrong
  2. Stay awake all night… but then I’ll probably fall asleep before the results really start coming in

Lots of finger foods, cheese, pickles, chutneys and crackers, plus a pizza for a boost about 2am? Make sure you have veg/fruit - I find I need it when I start to flag!

Do you have some games for the slow patch? Predictions, commentator bingo etc.

I'm planning lots of snacks, plus beige party food that can be ovened if I'm properly hungry. Will probably get some mini cakes too. No booze, it makes me sleepy.

My intention is to watch the exit poll and the commentary for an hour or after, then have a nap on the sofa until around 2.30ish when the results will really start to come in.

This is handy: https://www.theguardian.com/politics/article/2024/jun/29/what-time-will-we-know-who-won-hour-by-hour-election-night-guide-2024 and I saw a BBC one a few days ago with the timings for all the constituencies at the last election, if you want to check for your own (can't find it now).

Having read the different news line-ups I'm not sure which channel to go for. Was going to be C4 but Nadine dimwit Dorries is on there now!

We are going for pasta bake at our usual dinner time and a glass of red in time for the exit poll. We have M&S Percy Pigs for the Big Beast/Portillo Moments. Possibly most of all, we've got a print-out of all 650 constituencies, waiting, we hope, to be marked off in red, yellow, green etc. We'll probably stick with the BBC, because there are no ads, while flitting between the Guardian and Sky News on our phones.
