hotel for Taylor Swift on a Thursday in London?

we've got a hotel booked in Paddington( but don't have to pay for it till August 9th) for a thursday in august, for after the Taylor Swift concert. Now I'm wondering if there are areas of London where we can get more easily back on the tube, after reading some of the posts here about getting out of Wembley stadium? Will it be ok to get back to Paddington after the gig, I know the bakerloo line shuts at midnight? I'm assuming an uber from wembley area to paddington will be very expensive indeed

Paddington isn't too far. Perhaps leave before the rush and get the tube from Wembley Park to Baker street then change. I imagine a taxi would be quite expensive though because of Uber surge charges after a concert like that.

A quieter option would be to stay somewhere further out like Harrow or beyond. The tube is going away from central London so will be a bit less packed. It just depends on your plans for the rest of your stay I guess.

I think you will struggle to get another hotel now. Even so, isn't it worth ordering a taxi for this one-off event. It's 6 miles. Even if it's £50, is that even that much when you've paid loads for the tickets (and the hotel?)

You should be fine. Worst case scenario Baker Street/Marylebone to Paddington is perfectly walkable and safe unless you've made a rookie error and are wearing heels.

It's technically doable, (for some.) But I wouldn't want to be walking for two - to two and a half hours - around midnight to 2am through London. Especially if it's girls/women. Not a chance.

Baker Street/Marylebone to Paddington is fifteen minutes walk, not 2 hours.

SleepyTraveller · 01/07/2024 09:59

Jubilee or Met line to Baker Street, then another short tube hop, or a bus, or a 20ish minute walk to Paddington. I did it after a gig this weekend and it was absolutely fine

It’s about a mile, in a high foot traffic area, from Baker Street station to Paddington, so would do it - but I lived in central London on my own for years so did this sort of thing all the time. I realise people who don’t travel around London often have a different view though.

JollyHostess101 · 01/07/2024 10:05

There’s a travelodge in Northolt and a direct train from Northolt park (max 20 mins walk from hotel or numerous buses) we’ve always been home pretty quickly and easily after attending Wembley events!!

lovelyjubblys · 01/07/2024 11:49

thanks. Might just stick with it and hope we find our way back to Baker Street/Paddington in the end 🤣

There will be about 50,000 people ( me included...) heading back that way- you'll be absolutely fine staying in Paddington.

EachandEveryone · 01/07/2024 12:03

Edgware premier inn. Accross the road from Canons Park station and will have you there in less than 30 minutes

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 01/07/2024 12:09

Lets say the concert finishes at 10.40pm, it does not take long to get out of the stadium then walk to the tube station.
So I can't see why you won't get on the following tube:

00:02Wembley Central
(Platform 2)

Bakerloo towards Elephant & Castle
00:22Paddington

Walk
120 yd (2 minutes)
00:23Paddington, Praed St, London W2 1HU

personally I think you will be on the earlier tube :

  1. 23:46Wembley Central
  2. (Platform 2)
  3. Bakerloo towards Elephant & Castle
  4. 00:06Paddington
  5. Walk
  6. 120 yd (2 minutes)
  7. 00:07Paddington, Praed St, London W2 1HU

or...if you were happy with 2 tubes from a different tube station:

  1. 23:32Wembley Park
  2. (Platform 4)
  3. Metropolitan towards Aldgate
  1. 23:44Baker Street
  2. Walk
  3. 106 yd (1 minute)
  4. 23:50Baker Street
  5. (Platform 6)
  6. Circle towards Hammersmith
  7. 23:55Paddington
  8. Walk
  9. 0.2 mi (1 minute)
  10. 23:55Paddington, Praed St, London W2 1HU

Harry Styles, not Swifty, but we got an Uber from Wembley to near Paddington (Lancaster Gate) about an hour after the concert finished on a Saturday last year and it was £35.

poorbuthappy · 01/07/2024 12:40

By the time we got to Wembley Park tube after Wembley night 2 last weekend we could only get a tube to Baker Street. The met line shut. It took us over an hour to walk from the stadium to the tube.
We sat in a tunnel for almost an hour due to a train breakdown. Then got off at Finchley Road and had to wait 40 mins for an Uber driver to take our booking.
We got into flat in Wapping at 2.30.

Just be prepared.

yikes! This is what I'm afraid of! Best to be prepared yes, as you say.

in that case make sure you use wembley central tube station, there is no way it will take an hour to walk there.

my daughter and I left the stadium after the Sat show, it finished at approx 10.42 pm, we were in the High Road ordering a takeaway by 11.15 pm

Andywarholswig · 01/07/2024 13:38

Whatever you do don’t bother trying to get a taxi, it was gridlock on the last Sunday show, the area set aside for pickup was completely overwhelmed and the steward didn’t have a clue what to do. we had to walk all the walk to ikea on the north circular to get our pickup.

wow! How long did that take and were there lots of other people around at that time?

Andywarholswig · 01/07/2024 14:57

Was about a 30 min walk, there were people everywhere so walking through the industrial estate wasn’t a problem

EachandEveryone · 01/07/2024 18:19

Like I said Wembley to Canons Park is going away from central londo. It’s about four stops takes minutes. Premier inn Edgware.

Quartz2208 · 01/07/2024 18:23

I started moving as she was finishing karma (end song) got on the tube fairly quickly to Baler Street by 11:20 and Waterloo for 11:40:so made the last train home

Fizbosshoes · 01/07/2024 18:25

Wembley Central I think will possibly be less busy than Wembley Park.
Of course the tube journeys themselves are pretty short, but DD once queued for 1.5 hours after Harry Styles just to get to Wembley Park station ....which at any other time is a 5 min walk.
