Will fence spikes deter foxes

It's all change in the local fox population with this year's cubs, one of which has started climbing over our fence and into our garden. We only have a small garden and very young DC, so I'm keen to deter the fox as soon as possible, so as it grows and needs to find its own territory that doesn't include our garden.

There are various fence spikes available for "birds and animals". Would they work for a fox or would it just hop over without touching them?

Hopeful bump if anyone has tried them?

No. Nothing keeps a fox out short of a roofed in structure well dug into the ground.

No.

Foxes are only deterred by male urine.

I disagree with previous posters. We have managed to significantly deter foxes at entry points. Actually we didn’t use fence spikes, we made it impossible to walk along the whole fence and also made landing more difficult by growingin a wide border supported by multiple canes, which made it hard to reach the ground from top of fence, and hard to get out again. We also grew pyracantha and holly and raspberry canes along another fence already and notice The foxes really don’t seem interested in getting past these so I think something spiky and awkward against a fence helps.

It is possible our fox is less determined than yours!

The other thing is obviously to watch out for it at night and scare it off every time you see it. A camera on your phone that wakes you up if there is motion in the garden for a few weeks would help.

They dig under our fences. 🙁

They were running over our garage roof last night and doing somersaults onto the drive under my bedroom window, whooping and hollering. I can't even work out how they get onto the garage roof so I have no advice but will watch with interest.

No, they'll just jump over or dig under.

Don't bother with solar powered flashing light fox deterrents.
They don't work.
A complete waste of money.

No. I got rid of ours by the liberally spraying a mix of white vinegar and chilli powder around the boundary. My mum swears by rags soaked in jeyes fluid but I didn't want to go down that route when the neighbours have cats.

So I've been battling for years with Foxes as have my neighbours.

Most stuff doesn't seem to work if I am honest. The spikes will only work if there's no way under or around. They are incredibly agile and can climb up walls pretty well and I just witnessed one literally pulling off a trellis that was blocking him to access a garden. Their jaws are very powerful and they are smart.

What seems to work is making your garden less attractive than others. So I don't have anything next to my fence so they can't jump down comfortably, I regularly move my furniture around (apparently that makes them uneasy) and I empty my cats litter tray at the back so they know other animals use the area. It doesn't stop them completely and occasionally they'll jump in and I shout them off if I see them but other gardens are less hostile and they seem to just go there mostly instead

Thanks, they are quite cheap so it might be worth a try. They can't get under or round, so it's just a couple of fence panels they can get over.

We've never had a problem IN our garden before although they are in the area. They can only enter ours via one neighbour, however that neighbour is elderly and no longer uses her garden which the pregnant vixen took full advantage of. I just hope to put it/them off sufficiently for now that it finds its new home elsewhere.
