Question about council house gardens

theoretical question here. If someone has done up their council house garden, awkward path, planted things, large plant pots, beds, even a shed maybe, all a huge expense and took a lot of time, are the council likely to take bits of it out or strip it all out before a new tenant moves in?

Inside the house they strip the lot but outside they probably wont bother.

Fat2fitter · 30/06/2024 19:51

Probably leave it.

My gran had a lovely garden. New tenants ruined it.

sevsal · 30/06/2024 19:52

The awkward path may be removed if it restricts access

Ginkypig · 30/06/2024 19:59

Obviously I don’t know for sure but if it is tidy and the shed is in good condition they would probably leave it all.

they might decide to take down the shed and remove the pots but to be honest it really depends on either what the rules of that particular council are (for example my council removed brand new made to measure blinds because the rule was strip everything from inside the house, it didn’t matter that they were less than a couple of months old!) or if no rules if the workers decided to and can be arsed.

Wouldn’t the people moving out be more likely to take most of it with them? Planted pots, shed, maybe even dig up their plants?

stomachcramps · 30/06/2024 20:04

What's an awkward path?

What's an awkward path?

Like one that’s bendy and not a straight line

My brother had to remove two sheds and a greenhouse when he left a council property.

Do you mean beds in the garden in the traditional council house sense of old mattresses? If so they will probably leave them for the wider aesthetic of the area.

'Awkward path' made it sound like it was a problem to navigate. A curved path won't be taken up and replaced.

They just came and strimmed and cut all the front sort of bush/tree/hedges on a couple houses on my road ready for new remnants I assumed. Except the houses are still empty having stuff done inside so the grass is knee hight again and in cutting the hedges down they knocked over the mini wall hidden inside and appear to be leaving it as it is. There was nothing wrong with the gardens just really overgrown but behind a big hedge now the whole street gets to enjoy the view

JayJay514 · 01/07/2024 01:44

we have a council house. The previous tenants left plants in the front garden and a huge Wendy house in the back garden but the housing checked it was ok with us first.

Singleandproud · 01/07/2024 07:30

Yes, my neighbours had bought theirs and then inherited a house and when they went to sell the council bought it back and they had to remove their sheds and overground pond and all their pot plants. The raised beds and fences were left on place. The council then removed the brand new kitchen and bathroom and lovely doors they had had put in. I imagine if they had messed with the path so it wasnt wheelchair or child friendly the would have relaid it.
