A question about sunscreen...

For the face....do you put on moisturiser then sunscreen on top?

I bought a nivea moisturiser with sunscreen but my gp said thats not really suitable as we dont apply enough of it to really be effective as sunscreen.

I think i remember correctly, she recommended putting on your facial moisturiser then putting on sunscreen...and applying more sunscreen during the day....

Is that correct?

Moisturiser first, then sunscreen, then makeup. Leaving time between each layer so it gets to sink in/dry or whatever. There are now over makeup spf sprays you can spray to top up during the day but I haven’t yet tried these.

Thanks. I dont wear make up so thats not an issue. Maybe a sunscreen spray would be good, i think moisturiser then sunscreen lotion would feel really greasy.

I have always though that sunscreen should be the last thing to go on. I have very dry skin so generally use a serum, then facial oil to lock the moisture in, then a tinted moisturiser with spf.

In summer when I apply sunscreen quite a lot I don't feel need for moisturer too I just do Spf as my final step.

Altruist is a good affordable one.

The doctor Sam one is excellent (it's a mineral one) but more expensive.

The Korean ones on yess style or style Vana are great too

Style and beauty has loads of recommendations for facial sunscreen. Your GP is correct that a moisturiser with sunscreen in it isn't enough, but you can go the opposite direction and use a moisturing sunscreen and skip the moisturiser. Use factor 50 to be safest you're getting full protection. I use Avene for sensitive skin as it never stings my eyes or irritates my skin. There is a fluid that is lighter and a cream that is more moisturising. There are also plenty of lightweight fluid options out there to go over moisturiser. La Roche Posay do one in a kind of rectangular bottle. I only reapply if I've been outside for over 2 hours.
