Is £50 a week for one person feasible?

One person and one cat. I take breakfast and lunch to work (usually yoghurt and fruit and some sort of pasta / rice dish).

I eat everything so no dietary restrictions but would like to watch the calories a little more (I am a real foodie). Probably get a bottle of wine a week and the £50 would need to include cleaning and cat products.

Is this doable or do I need to rethink?

If you eat a fair amount of non meat dishes perfectly feasible.
I was a veggie so like a rest from meat.
I like pilchards and curry so I can do value cooking. Plus a freezer helps to save on waste and storing sweetcorn etc. My little dog costs £15 in food but he eats chicken.

Yes perfectly feasible, we spend around £80 typically for 3 people!

Do you mean the £50 a week would be just for food for you and cat, if so I think it is feasible, however if it needs to include other things, toiletries, cleaning products, etc then I think it would be very tight.

Just for food & cleaning stuff yes I think that’s doable, what about toiletries, does it need to cover those too?

magnoliablooms · 30/06/2024 14:34

Yeah it's doable but I'd drop the wine

EmpressaurusDeiGatti · 30/06/2024 14:35

I budget about 50 per week for me & 2 cats, although I’m a veggie & do a lot of batch cooking which makes it cheaper.

Defanetly doable , I spend 50 on 2 adult. If you don’t eat takeaways and don’t include takeaways in this price you’ll be totally fine ! And I don’t think anyone needs cleaning products every single week , normally they last forever once you buy some . Same for toilet rolls , 16 pack lasts forever too for one person . As long as you spend a bit more once every month for toiletries etc then that would work . Maybe 30£ extra once a month for toiletries stuff and cleaning stuff .

I think I could definitely do it. I have two cats. My child is away this week so it's just me and I'm already noticing the difference. I don't eat meat or fish but if I did I think I could still manage to afford some. I don't buy cleaning products every week, not more than once per month and probably less.

daffodilandtulip · 30/06/2024 14:47

I spend around £75 a week for me and two teens, so basically three adults. Then about once a month I'll do a home bargains type shop and spend around £20 on cleaning/toiletries.

Thanks all! I have a separate toiletries budget because I buy quite specialist shampoo and skincare but that's factored in to the month.

Just about to live alone for the first time and having a small spiral about money!
