Do I need to do party bags?

My daughter is having a birthday party tomorrow. It’s an actors party so I am paying per head for a splash slide party with a hot meal and drink included for 3 hours. Do I really need to do party bags? I really don’t want to - filling small bags withsweets and cheap plastic tat aagggh!
I think that if they are getting a good activity for 3 hours with food and drink that should be sufficient?
they can take a slice of cake?

How old are the kids!

GoingUpUpUp · 29/06/2024 19:15

What’s an actors party?

How old are the kids? I think generally they enjoy party bags so I’d always do them

If you can tough out the kids asking and asking your DD, you can. You can't tell people it's because they've already had enough because it's a standard party format.

Can you get some wildflowers seeds and a pack of haribo for each, with cake that's fine.

Alalalalalongalalalalalonglonglilong · 29/06/2024 19:18

I try not to on a point of principle. They are a pointless expense full of plastic rubbish that ends up in the bin the next day. Maybe get some nice paper to wrap up a slice of cake to take home? I hope by not doing it others will stop in the hope of phasing out this ridiculous practise. That said if it's important to your dc I'd probably just roll with it for an easy life. Am intrigued as to what's an actors party?

trextape · 29/06/2024 19:18

so you’ve got all the stuff?

MartyFunkhouser · 29/06/2024 19:18

What’s an actors party? Intrigued.

Young kids love a party bag. Even if you fill with chocolate bars and a slice of cake (I never bought sweets).

scrivette · 29/06/2024 19:18

How old are they?

I would do a slice of cake and bag of chocolate buttons (size dependent on age of child of child) or bar of chocolate. It a nice way to end a party with a 'thank you for coming to my party' and gives the party child a chance to thank you for the party.

RosieLeaLovesTea · 29/06/2024 19:19

Sorry that should say activity party- 3 hours of whizzing down water slides plus hot meal and drink. They are 10.

i’m confused

it’s tomorrow

so you have the stuff and can’t be bothered to fill the bags?

Stressfordays · 29/06/2024 19:19

I do think you should do party bags, kids expect them and it's part of the fun really.

randomusernam · 29/06/2024 19:22

I would ignore all these people, more and more people aren't doing party bags. If the party is tomorrow it's too late to stress yourself about it now. Send them home with a slice of cake! They will still be happy. Recent parties I have been to have done the following - just a slice of cake, a sweet cone, a book, make your own cookies bags, seeds to plant

DecafDodger · 29/06/2024 19:24

10 is quite borderline. Both mine have birthdays tomorrow, will do party bags for the one turning 9, but the 11yo said not to bother.
It is a good way to signal that it's time for the guests to go :D

YellowHairband · 29/06/2024 19:25

I agree.

Barleysugar86 · 29/06/2024 19:26

I would have said absolutely need them at 7, but I think you can drop them by 10 to be honest.

jaleke · 29/06/2024 19:32

We still party bags at 10 and 11, but filled with more tween things.

Isseywith3witchycats · 29/06/2024 19:51

When mine were that age party bags werent the all singing all dancing things they seem to have become now i put a slice of birthday cake in mine with a small bag of sweets didnt get any complaints and parties mine went to came home with the same and at 10 a slice of cake is more than enough

sprigatito · 29/06/2024 19:54

How does the birthday child feel? That would be the decider for me. They do reach the point where they think party bags are naff, but 10 is borderline.

Snugglemonkey · 29/06/2024 19:55

I would do party bags, but just cake, a sweet cone and a wee microwave mug cake, or chocolate lolly cake, seeds etc.

treacledan71 · 29/06/2024 19:56

I did a big bag of buttons or alike for that age.

trextape · 29/06/2024 19:57

if the party is tomorrow and you haven’t done party bags… then pointless thread

if you have got party bags but can’t be arsed to fill… seriously op it will take you a few minutes

i suspect you havent got anything and your daughter just asked what’s in the bags

Blarn · 29/06/2024 19:59

I put cake, a chocolate, a mini notebook, fluffy topped pen and some temporary tattoos in the last ones I did. Doesn't have to be plastic crap and kids love them, it is part of the party. You risk having a lot of confused kids.

Superhansrantowindsor · 29/06/2024 19:59

Never had part bag when I was a kid. Piece of cake wrapped in a napkin and a balloon. If my dc complained about a lack of party bag after what sounds like a brilliant party I’d be very disappointed in them and tell them to get a grip.

EstellaWaitHereForMe · 29/06/2024 19:59

I used to love the kids not getting one, usually just plastic crap to lie about before getting binned.

Slice of cake and bye!

Dressinggowntime · 29/06/2024 20:00

Kids expect party bags. Always.
