What happens to your car in hospital carpark if you don't go home?

This actually happened to DH, he drove himself to A&E and they kept him in. I went to pick the car up.

But now he's gone, what would happen if it was my car and I don't have anyone to go and get it from the extortionate hospital carpark?

When this happened to me they gave me a parking permit thing. Obviously depends on whether or not you are able to get it to the car...

They give you a permit and if you can’t take it there yourself then a member of the estates or security team do it for you. At least that is in the case in the five or so hospitals I’ve worked at.

This happened to me! I found a ticket on my car but they cancelled it when I appealed and sent a copy of my A&E discharge sheet.

My dad drove himself to the hospital and then died 2 days later. I don’t actually remember who paid for it. Maybe he got a voucher thing in A & E? It was over 20 years ago, so maybe the car park was still free? After he died, my mum had to get the keys from his belongings (they were divorced, I was NoK but only 18) and I drove her to the hospital and she collected it and drove it to his house. It was eventually sold along with the house and other things.

Nobody knew what to do in the A&E I was in, they definitely weren't handing out permits.

There was a car on the patient level of our multistory for almost 4 years, unmoved and gradually being obscured by carbon deposits. It finally moved last year, I occasionally wonder about the person who owned it.

Thank you, it's ridiculous the things I find to worry about.

I have an appointment nexf week. It's a 45 min drive, which I'm not completely happy about doing myself because I'm not sure how I'll be driving afterwards, but the alternative is 3 buses and a 2.5 hour journey.

I'm ashamed to say I'd never realised, but so many everyday things are just harder when you're single and it's just you..

That’s poor internal processes then as there will undoubtedly be a hospital policy for how to handle that exact situation and it wouldn’t have been the first time it had happened either.

At our hospital you go to the parking office which is right by the main entrance and they’ll sort you out, either with a permit or do something on the system to cancel any pending fines.

I drove myself to hospital when pregnant and came out three weeks later.

I was given a note that enabled £5 a week parking, attendants were very good and said for a laugh will check charge on ticket. £260 odd, though paid £15

My Mum drove herself to A&E. She was admitted and died 6 weeks later.

She gave the reg number to security so they didn’t clamp her. My sister moved the car after a couple of weeks when it was clear Mum wouldn’t be leaving the hospital alive.

My dad drove himself to a&e rather than wake my mum! Turns out he had a stuck kidney stone, and was in quite a bad way. He'd parked in an emergency doctor's bay outside a&e (there's no way he should've driven and we've had that conversation), and a porter took his keys to security who moved it and put a permit in it.

I’m sorry for your loss, OP. It’s funny the things you think about after a bereavement.

My ex parked right outside maternity for my DS2, who was born 40 minutes later. The midwife gave him a permit and he moved it after the birth.
