Currently trying to lose, first lesson in six weeks.

Five foot three, eleven stone. On track to get down to below ten but not there yet...

No you'll be fine at 11 stone. The riding school will match you with an appropriate horse.

LeaveTheClocksAlone · 29/06/2024 10:50

Oh and I've never ridden before ever

Plenty people - eg men? - are heavier than that and ride regularly. They will match you to an appropriate horse op. Enjoy it, it’s awesome.

MonsteraMama · 29/06/2024 11:04

You'll be fine, most male riders will weigh more than that. You'll be matched with an appropriate horse and you're not going to be endurance racing on your first day anyway!

Have fun, riding is wonderful!

hilariousnamehere · 29/06/2024 11:07

I'm a fair bit heavier than that and have ridden all my life, you'll be fine!! Good luck with your new adventure!

longdistanceclaraclara · 29/06/2024 11:38

My stables has a 13 stone limit. You'll be fine.

Startingagainandagain · 29/06/2024 11:38

Schools usually ask you for your weight and height when you register with them as a new rider and before you have your first lesson with them so they can match you with the right horse.

Astrak · 29/06/2024 11:49

As noted above, the riding school should match you with an appropriate horse. Are they BHS approved? They should be, as this will ensure that the care and welfare of the horses and ponies is good enough , and the instructors have the BHS-approved training.

spikeandbuffy · 29/06/2024 12:25

You're fine, I rode at anything from 11-16 stone

Lifesucks2024 · 29/06/2024 13:44

I think a lot of stables have a 13 or 14 stone limit so you'll be fine. Lots of people will ride at your weight.

mindutopia · 29/06/2024 13:52

Absolutely fine. Most riding schools will not teach you over 14 stone due to insurance reasons. But I have a horse and am 15 stone. You just need the right horse for your body. Most of the horse people I know are not particularly slender!

Thanks everyone. I checked out the stables today and asked about the weight limit. She looked me up and down then said "14 stone. You're fine 😉"

Yee ha! 🏇

No way is that too heavy. I used to horse ride when I was 12 stone, they just match you with a horse capable of carrying that weight.

twoforj0y · 29/06/2024 18:07

Totally fine. They will have no problem with that.

LeaveTheClocksAlone · 29/06/2024 23:21

I am so excited
