How much would you pay for this hedge trimming...?

Location: Surrey (so pricy South East, but not London).

Trimming 7 bushes which (cumulatively) surround the front garden.

All different types of bush and different heights (from a 5ft fuscia to a 10ft holly), some need a ladder.

Takes around 45 mins to do, plus 15 to clear up (with a blower) and take away cuttings.

Paying a professional tree/bush company, not an odd job.person.

I would guess at £300

I would guess at £300

That's about what I paid for less than an hour's work in Fife - a team of three men.

ETA They disposed of the trimmings.

£75

Well I'd say £100 for the job if it's an hour plus £50 for the disposal and a bit on top

£200

IAmAnAdultHumanFemale · 28/06/2024 23:21

Well if it takes 3 men an hour like pp said then £500!

Boxina · 28/06/2024 23:23

I'm in a pricey bit if the South East and based on work I've had done recently I'd say up to £100. I wouldn't pay more than that for less than an hour's work, especially pretty simple work like pruning.

mjf981 · 28/06/2024 23:23

How many people? 1 only? Maybe 300 including removal of clippings.

olympicsrock · 28/06/2024 23:25

If it really took an hour ( I thought it would take longer) I think the bill might be up to £150. To account for their travel and disposal of rubbish

It was just one guy.

I just checked my Ring doorbell and it took 1 hour 7 mins from start to him leaving.

It was £120, so somewhere in the middle of the gusses.

He knocked on our door to say he was just waiting for another appointment, and could squeeze ours in. I was sceptical, I don't tend to agree to that sort of thing without planning.

But I googled his company (he had the polo shirt and van etc.) And they got great ratings. So I went ahead. I also saw him trimming a hedge on the road opposite after ours so I dont think he was a random chancer.

I just wondered what the going rate was. Whether it was a decent price or I should try to find a cheaper solution in the future. He did a good job. Looks neat.

That's a great price and it's rare to find someone who manages to come early to a job! Never let him go!

TherebytheGraceofGodgoI · 29/06/2024 00:03

That sounds good to me.
You will always find cheaper but that doesn’t mean it will be a better job. If your pleased with him, hold on to him.

Intothevalley · 29/06/2024 00:17

Agreed @TherebytheGraceofGodgoI and @MeinKraft

They also do actual tree surgery. So I'll have them have a go at the trees in our back garden this winter. Which are getting a bit top heavy and sway-y in the wind!
