Sky - negotiating down prices

Anyone had luck recently? I've seen a few people saying it's been harder to get them to offer reductions lately.

Just had an email from them offering a 'deal' price of £101 a month (!!!) if we enter another 2 year contract which feels absurd especially when we don't have cinema/sport etc (or any add on channels for that matter). Currently paying less than the 'deal' as well so I'm not entirely sure how they've come to that as a reasonable figure.

But they've consistently been the best broadband provider for us and generally pain-free when we've had any issues so I don't really want to leave.

Vitgin media are the same unless your a new customer then you get all the cheap deals

ExhaustedGoose · 28/06/2024 17:46

We've just renegotiated to £95pm for a full package including Sports & Cinema. Netflix included too

MaddyMadison · 28/06/2024 18:18

I completely agree, they're getting harder to negotiate and more expensive.

A few months ago I negotiated to £38 to include Sky Signature, +Netflix HD (no adverts). I removed Sky HD. I then opt into Sky Cinema and HD when the offers drop for e.g. 3months. and ALWAYS put the cancellation date into calendar with notifications so I don't forget to cancel in time.

I did a MoneySuperMarket search to switch broadband and found one with Vodafone for £32 for 900MBs. It doesn't always reach that, but it does always reach 500MB min which is great.

We cancel and then the other adult in the house gets the new customer price.

Say you'll cancel. You'll either get a decent offer during the cancellation period or shortly thereafter. You used to be able to get 75% off but it's more like 50% now.

Think I'm paying around £55-60 per month which includes sky sports, Netflix, multi room, ultra HD and a few other bits.

I’ve recently added Sky broadband and the speed and coverage has been dire (third engineer visit cancelled today).

Have you considered switching to Now TV? Their broadband is powered by Sky and their TV subscriptions are essentially Sky subscriptions but flexible (no contract). They’re also very easy to get offers on - if I try to cancel online, I am almost always offered another offer for 3-6 months, and I just renew. I also switch NOW Sports on and off throughout the year when there is sport my DP wants to watch.

I am currently paying £2.99 a month for NOW Cinema (for 6 months) and £2.99 for NOW Entertainment (until next month). Their broadband ranges from £24-£26 a month. I access NOW via Apple TV but you can also purchase a separate stick.

This is what we're considering if we can't negotiate much off! Noting down that some posters have full packages for less than they're offering us on a basic set-up, hopefully they'll budge.

say your going to cancel, we actually had to cancel, send the bloody box back to them but magically they found us a cheaper deal after that!

Kevintheelf80 · 28/06/2024 20:47

You definitely need to get put through to the cancellations department as they have the best offers. Have another deal with another company to tell them you are switching to and they will usually match it. If not go through with the cancellation and 9 times out of 10 someone will ring you within 7 days to give you a better deal

EasterlyDirection · 28/06/2024 20:54

DH haggled ours down again a few months ago, its about £70 for SkyQ with sport, cinema (two free cinema tickets a month), multi-room (one extra room), Netflix, no broadband. He had to cancel bit we hadn't posted the box back when we got a call with the offer from them.

Floralnomad · 28/06/2024 21:09

Cancel and then see what they offer . Our box broke and we wanted to swap to Sky stream , the Sky originally was in my husbands name and they wouldn’t shift on any offers and insisted we’d have to move across on the package we had . We cancelled and I took out the stream in my name and got it for half the original price . He has since had offers every other week to come back for £43 for the whole package including sports and movies .

Skykidsspy · 28/06/2024 21:13

I actually left and dh joined - they okayed it before we did it! There was an offer on a comparison site and they couldn’t get anywhere near it! It was very easy and there was no missing service. We have broadband and tv with movies and an extra room, all with Netflix and no ads for around £50

Massivescreen · 28/06/2024 21:40

I recently cancelled broadband, sky cinema and sky sports but kept the TV and Netflix. I expected / hoped they’d come out with a good offer but they didn’t, they were happy to let me pair back the service massively and haven’t made any attempts to woo me back to sports or movies despite me being a customer for 15 years or so.
