Eyes burning , contacts or hayfever

My under eyes have been a little bit puffy and my lids feel heavy and I'm not getting a lot of wear out of my specsavers lenses so I bought the air optix aqua of visiondirect and the last 2 months have been worse than ever the last 2 months .
I put my lenses in and they sting and burn when I'm outside and eye drops don't help , I cried a bit when I was sout and my eyes were like I had just stuck onions in my eyes ( they became red and puffy and the burning was awful and my nose started running ) .

Could this be hay fever ? Or just a dodgy box of contacts ( specsaveers told me to buy direct of vision direct)

Did you change lens type?
all contact lenses are quite different to each other in terms of material, dimensions and therefore fit.

you should never change from the type which were initially fitted.

just go back for a contact lens check and they’ll tell you what the issue is. (I’m an optometrist).
it could be the lens, could be your eye…

I've had the lenses before so I know i was OK with them.
I've been wearing contacts for 15 years and Occasionally I'd get a pair of lenses that would give me the same symptoms so I'd get sent a replacement and this issue would be gone . After I took my lenses out the heat from opening the oven made my water and burn ☹️ .

Thank you for your reply

If your eyes are burning when you put contact lenses in for the love of god stop putting them in

I've just re-read this. Air optix aqua were discontinued by the manufacturer a while ago. Double check the packaging, they made be out of date, or they may have just sent you something else (which doesn't suit your eyes).

Don't mess with your eyes! Don't wear any lenses until you've been checked for an infection.

I can't tolerate some brands of lens cleaner. Others are fine.
I have bad hayfever, but never had an issue with lenses over the past 30 years. I've always assumed it's because they make a barrier between the eye and the pollen. I always have itchy streaming eyes if I wear my glasses when the pollen count is high.

If your contacts are irritating your eyes, even due to hayfever, stop wearing them until they're not sore. Go and see the optician, don't self medicate with eye drops. Just stop wearing them.

I speak fron bitter experience, I have scars on my corneas from an infection caused by contact lenses, that I thought I'd medicate myself, I was quite close to something more serious. They had to speed up my new glasses (think 2 hours speed) as I didn't have any and needed to see and I had medicated eye drops for 2 weeks.

That was 18 years ago.

The moment my eyes start itching or feel sore I take my contacts out and wear my glasses now. My hayfever is really bad right now, it was bliss taking my contacts out the other day when I got home from work.

You only get one set of eyes.
